I didn't think patterson was realistic until recently. I think the drug issues might have left a bad taste in his mouth at tcu.
I think Patterson is realizing that it's not so easy competing in a major conference with WAC talent, and that long term, TCU will have a hard time competing for the same recruits as OU, Texas, etc. Even though they are well coached, and still overachieve, they are struggling as much as Utah is with Wittingham, in the PAC 12.

At least with a major program like UT, he has all the resources he needs to compete with the elite in the SEC

Can he recruit at our level?

That is my only question.

Starting to pizz me off, Larry. First you say Dooley was the only one available last time around, and that is an absolute lie. It was widely reported at the time that Sumlin not only was one of the remaining candidates, but was VERY interested. Hamilton didn't think he had enough name recognition, and instead put his chips on Dooley...even though he was the least qualified.

Now you want to sell us this BS that you KNOW he's not coming, despite others with more connections than yourself stating that he is.

If you knew, either way, I doubt you'd be saying anything right now.

I'm get blasted every time but people like him and skeeter are nothing more then fortune tellers. They act like they know more then anyone else when it fact they don't. They "bet the odds" and when right take the credit. When wrong there is always a convenient excuse. It's ridiculous how many people can't think for themselves and hang on every word these charlatans say.

That would be my worry as well. No real ties to the south, and no way he could consistently get us in with top kids from Texas over Texas and Texas A&M. I think we would see a situation where it would be very mediocre recruiting for a couple of years while he build relationships with schools and recruits in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, etc.

Long term strong is the better choice IMO but more risky.

I'm sure Saban once looked like someone who wasn't going to be the Alabama coach, particularly went he said, "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

I think he caught a lot of criticism there that he felt was unwarranted. The media blew it out of proportion. At least I hope they did or his discipline issues might be a red flag

I thought you meant it upset him and he wanted to stay and right the situation. I am fine with it. Hope he is on the VERY short list.

I think it may have been the thing that changed his tune on finishing his career there. He has had plenty of other chances to leave so if he does leave now something happened

Next Vols coach has gotta be Jon Gruden. Go big or go home. The Vols need a big splash to get back on the landscape of college football.
