Regardless of whether it's Gruden or not I think question of timing is a pertinent one. The real question is where is the balance as there's risk-reward for both. I don't profess to know the answer, and I suspect that's one of the things Hart is wrestling with as well (provided a decision has been made). This is exactly the reason that the MSU game was a benchmark. I don't think it is flaming, and is reasonable discussion point in relationship to the theory.
In that scenario, the sooner Dooley is gone the better.
On the other hand, as soon as Dooley is let go, it unleashes a poop storm of media, and everybody including Gruden has to start answering questions.
It sounds like everyone is reaching really hard for a way to keep the Gruden dream alive. I wish he was coming here, but I no longer believe its going to happen. Until I see Dooley fired I will just resign to the fact he will be our coach next year.

By the way, here's Vice Chancellor Scott Rabenold, whom UT Athletics would be reporting to now instead of Jimmy Cheeks . He's on the left. Regal Cinemas President Greg Dunn on the right. Caption for this photo from Knoxnews actually says they are checking out latest news on UT football

Not discounting this theory, but again for the sake of discussion, wouldn't firing Dooley and then hiring Gruden in very short order give exactly that impression? Wouldn't separating the firing and hiring as far apart as possible be more advantageous towards that viewpoint? Not trying to flame, just asking.
That would be a mistake IMO. Noone is reaching here, just making, imo, sound observations based on previous experience, rumor, and logic.
Update
My sources are telling me that the internal struggle over at UT with UT AD Dave Hart, the $$$$ boosters and Cheek has been abated for now. Ive learned that Dave Hart has gained a concession from Big $$$ that hes going to be the one who decides when to fire Dooley. Its now not a matter of if Dooley goes but when. Hart is now back on board with the plan after pouting for a few days and flirting with the possibility of rehabilitating Dooley. With everyone on the same page now with Dooley's ouster its going to be Dave Hart's call on when. I know the pressure is mounting especially with Kentucky making a move on Joker Phillips.
Source (including X and Vol Colonel) tell me that a group of UTs boosters want a coach in the bag before popping Dooley, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible. I believe Big $$$ has Hart's back on Dave pulling the trigger, because I believe behind the scenes Hart has been whining about not being able to do his job with all the outside interference. Its been a messy couple of weeks behind the scenes. Hopefully cooler heads have prevailed and UTs fan base will soon get some relief when this guy is terminated. Its time to get on with the future!
Are you guys of the opinion that a loss tomorrow to Missouri forces the AD's hand in firing Dooley immediately?

I think this is a plausible explanation. Hart is known to be an SOB. Again, the question of 'timing' is now the pertinent one. I do, however, think that it's clear a deal has not been 'done' by any stretch of the imagination.FROM BASILIO: My sources are telling me that the internal struggle over at UT with UT AD Dave Hart, the $$$$ boosters and Cheek has been abated for now.
