Big time hire

Our definitions of Disaster are very different. I'd file Retaining Dooley as that, but not hiring Cutcliffe. It's not a sexy hire, I'll give you that, but I believe our team would improve immediately.

I like Cutcliffe but I don't want him at UT. He had his shot at Ole Miss. He's like a Camry; good, safe reliable transportation but you don't want to be at the red light racing the Ferrari next to you when the light turns green. We need a Ferrari.

Honest question here (and I'm NOT in favor of this either) but if Cutcliffe were really an option why not just rehire Fulmer?

The OP lost all credibility when he put Petrino in the C'mon man list.

Petrino is the elite of elite. Say what you want as a human being, but as a proven college head football coach, Carroll is the only one in his league.

Cutcliffe would lose half the battle, automatically. recruiting.

Yeah, Pete Carroll and Bobby Petrino are the same. :whistling:

Gruden
Kelly
Carroll
Stoops
Patterson
Peterson

Those are the only ones I would consider big time hires worth big money.

Strong and Gundy might be good hires but they would require big money to get in here and might not be worth the financial risk.

Petrino comes with some disadvantages in recruiting and program perception that are not present with the other big name guys. Winning is more than just X's and O's.

1. Gruden
2. Kelly
3. Petersen
4. Patterson
5. Strong
6. Petrino (If his rep hasn't ruined his ability to recruit)

DO NOT WANT
1. Smart
2. Cutcliffe
3. Dykes
4. Davis
5. Gundy
6. Mullen

I would add Carroll, but he's a TOTAL pipe dream (Kelly and Petersen are probably too, but i could see a slight chance at them jumping at the opportunity for more money and the lure of the SEC)

Kelly is not leaving Oregon. As for Gundy you got a better chance of Stoops leaving OU. Peterson would be my first choice (outside of JG) but I think the medical treatment for his son keeps him in Idaho. Patterson or B. Davis to me would be home run hires.

I got to agree to disagree w you on the big money to get strong and gundy a lot of speculators are throwin around that UT may pay gru anywhere from 5.2-6.0 mil a yr so I don't think money is an issue at all the problem lies within the core of UT aka jimmy butt cheeks fix that prob and we've got our HR coach. tifwiw

Again petrino puts a good offense together but puts no effort in defense and let me say this if petrino came to my house trying to recruit my son he's jumping back on his harley and hitting the highway pointblank no questions imo after that incident all parents would slam the door on him too.

the ole ball coach?

Not a bad quote I don't think TN would accept him but I got to say watching him for several yrs at s-car he has earned my respect he has done nothing but build a solid program at s-car. But when he was at Fl that was a different story w them being our most hated rival.

If Kiffin loses 2 of last 3 and gets fired, I would take him in a new York minute

Notre dame will beat him for the 4th loss

And actually, mora has Ucla playing very well. So that could be a 5th loss

I want to see Ucla beat them just shows what a poor coach he is when ur ranked #1 preseason and drop that fast he recruits pretty good but piss poor coaching oh and that equals dools too.
