how can you mess up a movie with a very promiscuous hot leading lady falling for the "less than hot" guy, where the lead characters turns lemons to lemonade constantly and with an amazing soundtrack. recipe for pure gold.

Yep, the first one was awesome. However, he pretty much single-handedly shaped America up until the 90's. I don't know what could be accomplished with a sequel. Perhaps he will inadvertently invent Google, ipods, and Pokemon.

There was a second book by the auther, and in it Gump tried pro football, if I remember correctly. The book bombed, so there ya go with that...

From the ultimate source, always correct:
Gump and Co. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

As in the first book, Gump stumbles through important U.S. events in the 1980s and early 1990s. He plays football for the New Orleans Saints, sells encyclopedias, works on a pig farm, and helps develop the infamous New Coke. He accidentally crashes the Exxon Valdez, helps destroy the Berlin Wall, and fights in Operation Desert Storm. He meets many celebrities, including Oliver North, the Ayatollah Khomeini, Jim Bakker, Ivan Boesky, Ronald Reagan, Saddam Hussein, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and of course, Tom Hanks.

I think a more relevant quote would have been, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

I was kind of referring to the potential for a good or bad remake, but actually, I think you're right..that would've been a much better quote, albeit grossly overused.

i thought the book was WAY better than the movie (which is almost always the case), and i loved the movie. in fact, it was on TNT this past Friday night and i had to watch the whole thing.

Not for me. Forrest has a gorilla or orangatan or something that follows him around. He's a physics genius. All that is just goofy to me. Also, he doesn't do any of the generation defining stuff he does in the movie. Also, he's not even a very good guy in the book. I thought the book was more funny than serious. The movie had its funny moments, but wasn't a comedy.

I watched it with my daughter...all sorts of little life lessons in there. I told her the college team he played was Tennessee but she thought the color was off. Anyone know what the uniform looked liked back then?

I don't think telling her that Forrest graduating summa cum laude and holding the record highest GPA from Bama was too big a departure from the truth.:whistling:
