Official Jon Gruden Thread V

His recruiting info is golden, no doubt.....however coaching hires are not in his wheelhouse.

This is what I thought as well. I value Skeeter's opinion when it comes to recruiting, because if I am not mistaking, he is associated with the team somehow. On the other hand, SpringBokVol is associated with the AD (I'm almost positive of this), so when he says DD is gone and there's a great chance we get Gruden (as well as many other respected posters saying this), then I want to have hope that SBV and others are right. We will all see in the near future.

In the cliff notes skeeter is claiming that under the current structure we aren't able to provide tutoring to our student athletes.

Did I understand that correctly???

Surely that isn't true.

Please explain if anyone knows

Yes, hat is my understanding....Thunder is not pleased that the Thornton Center falls under University Control, rather than that of the AD. It's not what he intended with his endowment.

JMO Skeeter sounds like someone who has vested interest in Dooley's status at UT. He sounds like a person who will lose a job if a change is made. Anyone who posts DD will be the coach next year is wrong. It might not be Gruden but it sure as heck won't be DD.

If actually true, I'd be mad as hell at somebody. Cheek?

I think it was Skeeter that has said that if DD leaves, his job might be in jeopardy. He survived Kiffin leaving though so I am not sure of that. Please don't run around relying on what my 40 year old brain tries to remember but I think it was him.

I can't get the link to post for some reason. I just googled (Athletic Director at UTC) it comes up UTC puts Athletic Director search on hold.

I think that with most things, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle on this one.

There's no question Cheek has ruffled the feathers of the AD, Boosters and Faculty. Is that enough to set the wheels in motion to 're-assign' him? Who knows.

I think it's certain that some in the AD leadership, be it Hart or Athletic Board members or both, believe that the current reporting structure for athletics is a detriment to running a successful department. Obviously enough people think this could be the case that it's on the BOT meeting agenda.

And the masses are certainly restless. There's a large faction which wants Dooley gone and are doing whatever they can to build support for a big name. No one knows where Hart stands but if you read between the lines of his statements he views the situation with 'urgency.'

As for Gruden, I have my doubts. We'd all love to have him but wanting him at UT really, really bad doesn't mean it's true.

This is starting to be a joke. Yesterday at 4:30, everyone was so excited that Jon Gruden was coming, due to some good sources (boro-vol). Now, when I get on here this morning everyone is gloom and doom again. Some are even saying that Dooley is staying another year. Does anyone with any inside source no what's going on? I was so excited yesterday and now it's like going to a funeral. Can someone please feel me in?

From what I understand they can... but the Ad, coaches, ect have zero authority there.

If coaches and support staff aren't welcome there then that's a problem but if its this way to protect from academic fraud that's a different story. IMO if coaches and athletic department members have their hands in the tutoring process independently of any other department academic fraud becomes a higher risk. I would love to know exactly how this works

I am not sure that even the people directly involved know everything that's going on. I would not be surprised if some have been tipped to their fate/standing/position through rumors in this very thread whether read directly or passed along.
