2013 NC WR Marquez North (UT signee)

He's our best edge blocker in the run game and he's only gotten a couple passes thrown his way. He's open most of the time yet they still don't throw his way. If they even turned and looked his way more often he wouldn't have the deer in headlight look. Without Dallas setting blocks, our edge running gm would be virtually nonexistent.

If that's the case, then that is all on Hinshaw period. Look at Norwood from Bama. He did a great job maintaining the edge against LSU's CBs all night. Look at the blocking downfield on Yeldon's screen pass. Inexcusable if VD is the only good true run blocker we have.

Hinshaw isn't anywhere near the level of WR coach Baggett was. Liked him more as the QB coach.

Also how many drops has VD had?

I'm thinking 3-5. I don't know an exact number. Its definitely nowhere near 11's number. Hell 11 had more drops in the NC St game than VD has had so far but still. When you get in, you gotta make your snaps count. And yes I know he had a big TD catch against USCjr. My thinking behind this is... its not a knock on VD as WR but more of a knock against the lack of discipline and overall ability of the corners and secondary.

What games were these drops in? Didn't know he's been targeted that much. Patterson, Hunter, and Zro are getting a lot of targets. Rivera isn't featured enough to me. Would really take some pressure off the outside.

I know he for sure had 1 drop against Troy, maybe 2. I think in the UGA or Miss St game, he had another 1-2 drops. I'm not saying he's a bad WR. Definitely not. I think his talents could maybe be utilized better on defense. And if he stays on offense, he most likely could get recruited over. JMO.

He might have 3 drops. He also has 8 catches for 131 and a TD. The Troy drop was magnified bc it was an easy one for a TD. Let's not make this an Arian Foster fumbling "problem".

He'll be a junior I doubt we'll recruit over him. Like Zro rose up this year. Dallas is progressing towards that. Plus he's the tone setter in the run game outside.

I think I may be coming off the wrong way. Trust me, I like VD as a WR. I didn't have a VN account at this time, but when VD committed (even though he was a 3 star, which some people think is an absolute sin to sign a 3 star kid) I supported it and approved it 100%. I really liked his film. And IMHO, I thought, at the time, that he projected best at corner. Of course 6 hasn't had a chance to immediately produce with 11, 21, and now 84 ahead of him.

Like I said, I have nothing against VD. I was just wondering why they moved him to DB and now back to WR. My bad fellas. Didn't mean to stir anything up.

Check his thread I liked him best at DB too. But we need him at WR. Hunter is entirely too soft in the run game. Patterson should be more imposing too. Bama, Florida, LSU, and Georgia WRs block hard. But their coaches don't play that BS either.

Actually, hunter had one drop against nc state. I started harping on his drops around the Mississippi state game, got in an argument and went back to watch film to count drops and prove my point.

One drop against state... Many more later

He's still lacking from playing safety in HS. He's not getting his head and eyes around fast enough. It comes with experience(everybody that plays CB has had this problem). He's good breaking forward that's why he needs to play in the slot where a lot of quick and crossing routes are run. He's a good tackler too so blitzing him to help set the edge would be nice. They are playing aggressive they just can't do it well right now. Gordon, Brewer, and Waggner just shouldn't be on the field really. Orta needs to be playing somewhere. Watching the Georgia State game was funny seeing that the reserves were much more athletic than the starters and Orta showed his athleticism on his pick. But this staff is stubborn as hell.

Good post. I agree.

I was at that game. I can name 3 passes that 11 dropped. Tyler had a play action throw and there was a crazy blitz. Bray threw off his back foot and it was a seam route. 11 had his man beat... it also would have been a TD. The 2nd one came on a corner route at about NC St's side of the field. It was 3rd down and he dropped it. That's when JH put his hands on his facemask. The 3rd one was a post route over the middle. I think it was 3rd quarter-ish.

Not trying to prove a point but I remember (for some reason) about those dropped balls.

You're right sir. The Florida game he had some big big drops that would've blew the game open and one late that would've tied it up. He's done nothing in SEC play this year(0 TDs). Georgia was his best game then he chumped it up against Miss. State and Bama.

I rewatched the offensive plays, and I saw a strip of the hands at the goal line, which I let slide and a 3rd or 4th down drop right at the sticks, wide open. I thought I recalled more, but that is all I saw on the replay. Anyway, carry on...

He's kinda doing like DR did last year. Granted that DR had to go against LSU and had Matt Simms for a while at QB. But their stats are misleading. Just from the Troy and Ga St game, JH has 6 TDs and close to 400 yards.

DR didn't have as many drops as Hunter does this year. To produce 1000 yards with Simms/freshman Worley as your QB a lot of the season is crazy. He was the best WR on the team. CP may be the most dynamic WR but DR was the best.

Yeah i think its obvious who our best receiver was. Looking back to last year and the numbers that DR put up being the ONLY guy for basically the whole offense (meaning even more Defensive attention than Hunter and CP are getting right now) really shows how good he was.

People argued and said Rogers sucked, and wasn't near Hunter. Those people look like idiots now. DR would be the leading receiver on this team by far IMO. I think it goes without much argument now that we lost our best player in DR.

With that said, Patterson literally has the potential to be one of the best the position has ever seen bc he is the most freak athlete that position has ever seen, but he is no where near as finely tuned as DR or even Hunter is. Patterson needs to come back for another year. Would greatly improve his draft status, and prepare him for a more immediate impact in the NFL. :crossfingers:

I agree. DR was our best WR. He has every physical tool you want in a WR, good height, strong, fast, quick twitch, good hands, etc. However, the kid was a bad apple. I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope he gets his head on straight sometime. He kind of reminds me of Dez Bryant, for some reason.

The chemistry on the team this year, regardless of the struggling defense, is great. By all accounts, DR didn't exactly exude optimism and create a healthy, team environment. Plus, another great WR wouldn't help us win games this year. We can score 50 points every game, but we can't stop anyone from scoring 50 points.

Definitely have to disagree there. I mean were basically unstoppable right now, but even some ESPN analysts said that w/ DR, we would be LITERALLY unstoppable on offense. I think our only lose would be Bama right now if we had DR. And I never concede a defeat to Bama, if we wouldve gone into Bama 5-0 or 4-1, no one couldve convinced me we couldn't have beat Bama.

Rogers would've definitely helped win the Florida game. All that zone pressure stuff would've stopped.

DR also brought a swagger this offense has lacked. JH fed off of this big time.

This yeam as a whole would be a lot different with Clear, Rogers, Lanier , Bynum and Lewis playing.

I just don't think it matters if you can't stop anyone. We are practically unstoppable now. Plus, I would rather not have to deal with the headaches due to DR. The guys messes with a lockerroom. By all accounts, the team chemistry right now is great.

Arkansas was "unstoppable" last year. How'd they turn out against Bama?

There wasn't an Arky WR outside of Hamilton that was on the level of DR, CP, and JH11(if he actually plays). Having three guys like that is damn near illegal.

The whole offense was to give DR the ball. Almost every receiver on the team last year wanted to transfer because of that. Hunter and CP would easily have 1000 yards if they got 100 targets a game. Charlie Baggett said himself that Hunter is light years better than Rogers. Scouts think the same thing also. DR is going to be a receiver like Boldin in the NFL. Hunter will be an Aj Green.
