i just don't see how we can afford keeping dooley. the gruden hire would be worth every penny. does cheek not understand that the football program funds everything. if things keep going the way they are, it will be terrible. Think of how bad the attendence will be after we get beat by mizzou, and vandy. i bet the stadium will be completly empty vs ky. the recruiting class is going to be trash too. it's gonna suck to watch this garbage unfold.

This thing doesn't completely pass the smell test to me. An AD standing up and telling billionaire boosters no to anything just doesn't sound right. Smoke screen it could be.

i dont have a stance, i just bite on every rumor that comes by. i think i have a good idea of whats happening, though. Haslam says "Jon ill pay you big $ to come clean up this mess". Jon says "im listening". boosters start figuring out how to make $$ situation happen and word starts leaking out. Hart is a pawn, and wants Gruden, but doesnt want Dooleys blood on his hands. Cheek however, is trying to shove his foot up the a** of the whole deal and is saying" we are not going to put that kind of $ in hiring a big name coach. lets stay the course, work like heck and hire somebody cheap that can coach well". Haslem and the boosters are saying "thats a bunch of BS, Cheek! we are about to filet your pie in the meeting this week and write a check to Gruden and hope you didnt F this up beyond recognition". edit- this is just how im interpret the situation. maybe way off.

I'm no insider, I grew up with some of y'all in knoxville, bearden high school in the early 90s.

However, my dad worked for UT for several decades, still moves in some of those circles. He recently attended a luncheon with two players from the '51 championship team. These are respectful, older gentlemen not keen on gossiping too much, but one did share that, in his opinion, the AD dept was an utter, chaotic mess, with deeper problems than most of us know about.

Could be idle chitchat, or simply speculation, but it sounded ominous to me.

I really didn't think much about it, until reading this thread today and seeing a lot of similar statements thrown about.
