It's my understanding that everyone but Tennessee (including Vanderbilt) accepts a transfer class where the student makes a C- or a D.

Because of that a guy like Lanier would have been eligible at other SEC schools but not at Tennessee. Also remember that the academic side (Cheek) has said in the past that just because your an NCAA qualifier it doesn't mean your admitted to school as was the case with Eddrick Loften.

hard to believe that about Vandy

I know right? I'm doubtful Vandy accepts a D transfer course. Even if they did, it wouldn't matter because neither Lanier nor Loften would have qualified there at all.

Let's face it people, it's not that hard to qualify to play football at the University of Tennessee. It's not our mediocre standards being too high that is the problem. It's kids who didn't handle their business when they should have.

as i've said from day 1 . . . cheek needs to go. he has not given his full support to the AD and gives no cares if our fball program is successful or not.

as bad as i hate to keep comparing us to them, saban has even said it himself that one of the reasons they are dominant is because everyone on campus is in support - president, faculty, support staff, students, etc. if we want to be elite again, we need to take the bama approach and have everyone in the system 'all in' in regards to giving their support to the program to succeed.

chancellor@utk.edu is the office's email. let them know (in a non-redneck tone) of your concerns

Lanier was accepted and played here for a year, this isn't the reason he isn't playing this year.

Glad to see Cheek actually take an academic stand. I think he fully supports the AD and the school's teams but the primary reason for college is academics, not athletics.

The problem with the football team is not the president of the school.

Damn people

I know. Stupidity is running rampant around here today. I said it in another thread. Many of the people calling for Cheek's head have no academic affiliation with UT and couldn't care less about their academics. Half this board would be fine if Tennessee was a 4th tier university as long as they had a top 15 football team.

I would rather UT achieve its goal of being a top 25 national public university than see the Vols win a national championship. Crazy, I know.

Of course...
