And with the arrival of former Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri as the Vols D-Coordinator over this last season, Dooley’s future had been in doubt.
Tennessee’s 2011 defense gave up 271 points. This defense already has given up just as many in four fewer games. It also has given up 211 points in five SEC games — or 10 more than the 5-7 team of 2008 team gave up in its entire dreadful season. Dooley’s apparent departure follows that of seven former Tennessee assistant coaches, who left following Dooley’s hugely successful 2011 campaign.
However, in a twist to the story, Volquest.com tweeted: “Don’t know where the media got that from but can confirm Dooley is STILL employed by the University of Tennessee.”
An Athletic Department statement was then released, saying: “The University of Tennessee would like to place on record that Derek Dooley has NOT been dismissed by the University.”
Tennessee faces the second best team in Alabama, Troy University, in Knoxville on Saturday.

Yeah, is/when Gruden comes to UT, I look for some epic battles between him and "Midget Boy".
