Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

I'm not knocking anybody that has put info in this thread. I envy people that are 100% confident with the Gruden situation. I'm cool with any info people want to throw out there. I've been told not to count my chickens....

I do know this is not a sham. Pursuit of Gruden is real.

Everybody should be cautiously optimistic. Anything can happen at anytime.

This is exactly why the pursuit of Gruden is a milestone in and of itself. If the boosters are committed to spending the money on the right coach, the situation will improve no matter what. The entire culture and paradigm of hiring coaches at UT has shifted for the better.

This is so true...I consider this a victory, that they are at least giving the impression they are gonna go after a proven HC AND drop the dough.

I'm only cautiously optimistic because of the years, and years, and years of NOT doing that. Also, because we seem like we have been in a stretch where nothing goes our way, losing every which way possible, like we're cursed or something. Fear of the past, does not allow me to get my hopes up, but I wanna believe.

Here is something I poseted in another thread, but it explain why the announcement will be delayed. Boro or one of the others might want to weigh in:

"Gruden's extension, which goes into effect in September 2012, includes a provision that he will stay out of coaching through the new contract [with MNF]." This is from an article about Gruden's new contract at MNF.

I don't have the entire contract, but this states that Gruden will stay out of coaching through the end of his MNF contract.

What it means is that he will not coach and do MNF AT THE SAME TIME. There almost certainly is a termination provision in the contract, and I would bet money that it includes an out if he wants to coach again. Once the contract is terminated it is "ended" and he would not be in breach by coaching.

This clues me in as to why there can be no announcement at this time. He cannot be announced as anybody's coach until after he completes this season at MNF and terminates the MNF contract.

Now, he could go to MNF for a waiver, but that probably is more trouble than it is worth.

Just a note for everybody- the cliff notes thread shouldn't have questions in it.. Or really anything that isn't quoted info about the situation.

If u have a question about something, do it here... The whole point of the cliff notes thread is to cut down on clutter, and it will all start adding up if we aren't careful.

i agree with all this and what Lex posted as well. its as if UT woke up and realized its irrelevant.

Because he cannot sign any kind of contract or he would be in breach of his MNF contract.

Not necessarily. If he says i am committed to finishing this season of MNF. Then at second that last broadcast is complete. He can sign the memorandum of understanding or contract.

What if Gruden takes Tennessee to competing for NC's every season? What if he makes Tennessee's football program a perennial top 5 ranked team every year? Do you think revenue generated from ticket sales, merch, TV and so on could compensate the salary? I do. :)

(also to oregonvol)

Thanks for the input. I do realize that winning teams generate a lot of revenue. I didn't know that they generate THAT much, and that consistently, year after year. :hi:

Question for you guys to ponder regarding our current players and CJG. Lots of us have been saying "aww, yeah, players want to play for Gruden." Realistically, what are the chances that Gruden to UT would cause TB, JH, and CP to elect to stay out of the draft and play college ball next year? My personal opinion is that it would definitely cause TB and CP to think hard about the choice, but JH is so spooked about another injury (especially after Lattimore) that he will be gone regardless. Thoughts?

I don't think the NFL will draft TB - certainly not where he wants to be drafted

I think CP is around a 3rd rounder right now at best - specialist that can't run a route - really needs another year

I think Jhunt has also dropped out of the 1st round - lots of drops in key situations - not great production in a pass-happy offense

id say pretty likely that big time coach with NFL cred could convince them to stay for another year as they all need it

You have me confused with the oldvol stuff.

Oldvol is a preacher without work at the present waiti g for a calling.Yesterday I told him his calling is to be the one to pray over bobby P and redeem him At the alter. With your appologies last night I thought he redeemed you to.

im out of the loop what did he do to get the boot?

Laughed at Lattimore and wished Clowney to be next. I will say I was surprised he got a message board ban. Im sure he didnt mean it. Things on here are presented in extremes, no matter the topic.

It depends on the language in the contract, which we don't have. But, based on the article, I'm not sure I agree with you.

It is not about merely finishing this season at MNF. Rather, it is about the entire duration of the MNF contract.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to phowell for the creation of the Cliff's Notes thread. Not only does it put only the relevant info in one place, it also allows us to track who said what.

So this probably is off topic slightly, but I recently found out that there is a Chuckey, TN. Kinda ironic...or is it?

There's a Chuckey-Doak High School....

OMG! That means Chuckey is coming and we are getting the best running backs in the nation to get on board as well!!!! Awesome.

:)

I bet this kid gets beat tonight....

derekdooleycostume.jpg

If I see that kid I'm gonna grab him up, and hold him hostage until UT agrees to have a presser announcing Dooleys dismissal.

I'll probably steal his candy just for looking like Dooley.
