You are right! Sincerely, Nick Saban

You cannot argue that finding an exception to a rule disproves the general rule. There are always exceptions to almost every rule if you look hard enough.

I am speaking in generalities. As a general PR rule, you do not address speculation unless the speculation is actually severely damaging to you or your brand.

Who knows why Saban did what he did. I can't speculate on speculation.

Look, I am not saying that the silence proves/disproves anything, I am just saying not to rely on silence from key players as any sort of proof one way or the other.

I respectfully disagree.

Why would he do that? It is GREAT publicity for him, and by all accounts he is a lover of the media hype.

Did Randy Shannon ever come out and disavow the rumors that he was the DC? Nope.

Did Gruden come out and say that he wasn't the next coach at Arkansas? Not to my knowledge.

There is no point in giving speculation more legs by acknowledging the speculation exists.

I see your point, but one the difference in the Randy Shannon and Gruden situations is that Gruden has made it know that he like Tenn. Shannon to my knowledge had no connection to the university, he was just a big name coach that needed a job. Gruden coached here, met his wife here, and owns land here. All im saying is I believe if Gruden herd the rumors (which how could he not) he would say he wasn't interested so that we could pursue other coaches.

Top 3 class seems like a stretch but I guess anything is possible.

Whatever this incoming class would be, I believe our current roster could be great with some tweaking. I think they would do well with some old style in your face coaching. I think that's what they were after with Sal. I believe Gruden would bring that.

That would be weird. :)

Was thinking more like "hey this is coach gruden, just wanted to wish you guys luck in the state playoffs, etc."

Jmo but he doesn't need to build relationships right now. Once he's announced, his name alone will attract big name recruits.

Not really. Add Derrick Green, A.J. Turman, Marquez North, Jaelen Strong, Reeve Koehler, Toby Johnson, a couple stud LBs, Vonn Bell, and possibly Jalen Ramsey...plus there will be new names that previously showed zero interest in UT. Gruden will wow recruits unlike anything you've ever seen. His passion for football is infectious.

this is a point ive mentioned a few times in response to the "Gruden will only coach in the NFL" comments. nobody knows what his or his family's motivations are. his wife wanting to live closer to family, ALONE, could be the reason. good post DynaVol.

Thank you.

I've been a Gruden fan since he put on my beloved Silver and Black and have followed his career. Anyone saying he would "only" coach in the NFL hasn't been paying attention to Jon. He's stated several times over the years that he loves the college game and makes a point of studying star players and what makes them special. Case in point... Jon decided to study and learn the spread offense, going so far as to visit with teams across the country that successfully run it. This Guy.. is a student of the game in all ways.

Exactly how Kiffin recruits....and he has the personality of a chalkboard.

I understand. I just disagree. Even IF this is a totally baseless rumor, it actually ads equity to Gruden in free marketing and PR. Why shoot that down? In my opinion, it would be stupid for him to stop free publicity that could help him negotiate this or other future contracts...
