I'm just messin with you guys to an extent. I sincerely do not believe that Gruden is the answer though. I have stated that position on this website for as long as I have been a member, not just recently.

About the NFL

The only thing that worries me a bit is the Philly Job. Now Lurrie has said that as long as he's the owner, Reid will be the coach. Still, Jon "Deuce" Gruden, CJG's son is a freshman at Layfayette (sp?) College, a DII school in Pennsylvania. Reid has had a heck of a run there and a terrible year personally with his son's passing, maybe he's ready to walk away.

Still, I have a hard time believing that walking into a situation with Vick would just drive him batty. Who knows.

I would be more worried about the Dallas gig, but I don't think he will ever work for Jones. Philly may appeal to him, but I am just not buying it right now. It just doesn't seem like a good fit.

Compared to UT.

FWIW, Lafayette is in the Patriot League in the FCS. They are D-1.

Even the greatest coaches have bad stretches. See Belichick before he got to NE. Gruden had some great years in Oakland and Tampa both. I bet if he wanted to go back to Tampa, their fans wouldnt complain. Also its not just about coaching its about recruiting and Gruden will be a helluva recruiter.

Nobody knows what kind of recruiter Gruden would be. He might be good, but he might not have the stomach for it. And I gaurantee you TB fans don't want him back. He is not what you guys think he is.

I'm curios UEM, are you for staying the course with CDD or do you have another candidate in mind that you prefer over Dooley. Just trying to figure out where you're at, not trying to be hostile.

I don't know man. It has been discussed ad nauseum, but his time at Tampa was really skewed by the insane deal that actually brought him to Tampa.

Even so, look at him now. He knows football like we know breathing. If you watch him working with the QBs on his shows, you can see that he loves the teaching. He loves working with those guys. He challenges them while leading them where they need to go.

This is exactly why I think he will come to UT. I think he wants to come to the best conference in CFB history and have access to the best players in college.

He can be a very successful coach here if we hire him and let him do his thing. He is exactly what UT needs right now. I think he is exactly what college football needs.

That is a very valid concern. Reid is a part of that Bill Walsh "Family Tree." Gruden wouldn't have to worry about much of a culture shock when instituting his offensive schemes. Philly such a tough fan base though... I am worried about Dallas as much as Arkansas. It will never happen (sorry Jerry Jones on both counts).

It is officially my birthday. Think I may drink the Grudeaid to celebrate.

Happy birthday. You better go easy on that stuff, it cause delusions and irrational behavior if not imbibed with moderation.:good!:

Thank you. The label on the bottle warns of that, but says it wears off and that all delusions of the Vols winning a crap ton of games actually happens.

I'm a Tampa fan so I know where you're coming from. But I think that there were a lot of things that forced his hands to be tied in his situation. The only thing I can recall getting pissed about was the Mike Alstott thing. But I believe he would be a great hire and his name alone would do a lot of recruiting.for him

Well said.

Recruiting would be the big question mark. I think his name alone will get a lot done though. He will need to hire assistants that know what it takes on the recruiting trail for that very reason, at least the first couple of seasons. Once he is successful (hopefully), his name will carry more weight than most.

I don't think we need a Offensive coach right now, especially one who is not that great at adapting his play calling to his personnel. I think it is time for DD to go. He did not meet the expectations I had for this season. I will say this...IF...Gruden has learned from his mistakes AND brings a great DC and staff with him I would not oppose the hire.

Good points. I just am not the true believer most of you guys are. Maybe he would be great, I do think he has it in him to be great. But the guy is (or was) extrememly stubborn about his play calling. He made a ton of head scratchers at TB.

He had a pretty good DC at Tampa Bay
