Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

Btw I don't know how relevant this is. But a prominent booster for Auburn came into my work the other day. Chizik will be fired December 2nd, he has a buyout of 10 million until december 1 and it drops down to 7 million the next day. He said they are workingon Petrino... I asked him about Gruden he said he heard he was UT bound!!! TIFWIW

Well, that Auburn fan is dealing with reality better than a lot of UT fans.

Dang wished we had PM on this thing......

Agreed.

I like these sources who get their info from Gruden's side more the ones who get in from the AD.

Agreed.

Sometimes my kids will wake up scared in the middle of the night, I just have to pat them ans say "shhhh...it's ok" and they can rest again. I kind of feel like that is what BoroVol, Little DTO and others have to do with us at this thread when we get anxious, just reassure us every few hours that Gruden is coming and it'll be ok

Idn't that like going to church...?

Love how the core "insiders" haven't swayed or changed their stance at all. I guess I'm in.... I drink the grude-aid

I do not wish to start an argument here, seriously. But why would they not stand firm now? The backlash for backtracking (as I stated earlier) would be monumental, in that, it would most likely produce bans for these posters. If I was in their position, whether I was a true 'insider' or not, I wouldn't waver either. It would be a lose-lose.

FWIW, I was wrong in my posts last night about backtracking in regards to some posters in this thread, for that I apologize. I confused the general mood of this thread with what the posters (Jay, Boro, DTO, etc) had said. I'm still not convinced simply because of the many letdowns I have experienced as a Tennessee fan. Make no mistake, however, I would love Gruden to be our coach--just not sure yet.

I said last night people look at Bama how f-up they were for YEARS. Mike Price to Franchione. That was far worse than the Kiffin to Dooley muck up. Now very few even remember Bama being so bad. UT fans have become fatalist and have come to expect we just can't do any better. WE CAN AND WILL!

Good point.

I've read many times that Muschamp turned down the money we offered him. Three-point-five (3.5) million has been stated a few time. Take that as you will.

As for what he'd talk to a current SEC coach about, that's easy. It's like moving to a new neighborhood. Sure you've heard about it from other people, but you talk to a few neighbors currently living there to get an inside perspective.

From a coach's perspective, what are the fans like? The presidents and administrations? The athletic directors? What are the trends for the conference? The defenses, the offenses? Who's on the rise? Who will be down in the next few years? It's a little different at each school, but it's still more information to compile.

There are a million things a sitting coach could tell Gruden. Coaching is a unique fraternity. I'd think whoever he talked to would shoot him pretty straight.

Seems like people plugged in with boosters are confident. AD guys are more skeptical. I believe it is that way because apparently the boosters are the ones contacting Gruden hence greater optimism.

Drink the Grude-aid and join the flock of the Grudenite! We await you, with pastors and unbridled optimism in the great being known as Jon Gruden, and the saving of the Tennessee Football program!

Amen brother. Optimistically awaiting the church of Grude every fall saturday next season.

Even now, people still believe 100% that Gruden is coming to UT. Comedy at its finest. Even the 100% belief that Dooley is fired already is ridiculous. If Dooley loses another game, I see no way for him to survive. If Gruden says 'yes' then Dooley is done (however that is big long shot). But if Gruden says 'no' and UT wins out it is NOWHERE NEAR 100% that Dooley is gone.

After that commercial from reality, everyone can now return to the regular fantasyland programming.

Or the AD is trying, with alot of sucess, to keep a lid on it. The boosters not so much.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but i thought it was a good read.

The Pros and Cons of Jon Gruden Coaching at Tennessee | Bleacher Report

Gruden 100-85 He coached 11 seasons. Take away the Super Bowl year. He has an 85-81 record in the other 10 years.

So all of you Gruden lovers. Would you be satisfied with this type record?

Let's equate it to college. Fire Dooley now and Gruden wins the National Championship in his first year with Dooley's team.

Then over the next 6 years. He has two losing seasons and wins the East Division twice but loses in the SEC championship game both times.

Would you be happy?

No you are out of touch if you can't see that Dooley is DONE. M.O.N.E.Y. Follow it. Too expensive to keep Dooley with or without Gruden.
