Is it EVER ok to..........

No, as a card carrying alum, I NEVER wish for a UT loss. NEVER since 1974

I always think it's funny when people have to mention they are an alum of the university. Like it means their opinion is more important than someone that didn't go to UT. News flash....I don't care that you're an alum.

here's the deal, seriously.

for sake of argument, let's accept the premise that dooley is completely blameless for these three seasons. just for fun.

now, the question is, do you believe derek dooley will lead tennessee to a championship (because that is the goal) in the next five years?

imo, the answer is no. i don't see it in recruiting. i don't see it in his staff. i don't see it on the field.

and so, might as well as get on with the future.

I agree, and I certainly wouldn't have two months ago. I have been thoroughly rebuked by the ineptitude of the staff. How do you continue to find ways to lose every close game? It can't simply be a series of coincidences. Dooley isn't the future, so this "another year" argument is pointless. Another year for Dooley is just that much deeper in the hole we'll be.

Want us to lose a game if it means the difference between starting over with a homerun hire or returning a coach that has proven to be unqualified for he job? In other words, if you knew winning Saturday meant Dooley returns regardless of what happens the rest of the year, and losing meant he would be dismissed at years end to be replaced with Gruden or whoever you consider a homerun hire, could you want us to lose??

I have to admit, it's debatable for me with no clear answer.

I know where you're coming from on this so no bashing for me, but to put it simply the answer is no. If you are a fan of any sports team you should not ever root for your team to lose. Regardless of what may or may not be at stake, you have to want your team to win. It's what makes you a fan. If our situation with Dooley is as bad as it appears to be then it will eventually work itself out. That one loss will eventually happen that is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Indubitably it will be a very hard loss for everyone to swallow. Why hope for that? Conversely, by some miracle that loss could never come and next year we could have some sort of Auburn-like season. Far fetched as it may seem, stranger things have happened. But to wish for your favorite team to lose, regardless of the reasoning behind it, goes against everything it means to be a fan. It would be like asking Giants fans if they would rather have lost 3 straight even if they were assured of a game 7 victory, just to make the World Series more interesting.

*to be clear, I am not suggesting we win a national championship next year or that dooley should/shouldnt be fired. Im just saying you can't root against your own favorite team.

N-E-G-A-T-I-V-E... I can't speak for everyone else, but I have never wanted the VOLS to lose any game, nor do I want them to lose any game in the future. Otherwise, I wouldn't be much of a fan.

No. Until Coach Dooley actually underperforms I refuse to admit he isn't the man for the job. Losing to top 15 teams close does not count as underperforming. People need to quit acting like he is the reason Tennessee's standards have fallen. 3-4 years ago no way this team beats NC State or is even competitive with any team Tennessee has played to date.

Hmm.. North Carolina, Kentucky, Miss. State are not/were not top 15 teams.

Bubba Miller said on the radio today in Nashville our program has deteriorated significantly over the past 3 years. So...just sayin.

Lots of over-emotionalizing and "I'm a better fan than you" on my thread. Kudos to those of you who are able to think big picture and in pragmatic terms for the good of the program.........and be honest about it.

Fade, you are really just patting yourself on the back with this statement. I am honest I never under any circumstance want to see UT lose. There is absolutely no guarantee that wishing for loses just to run Dooley off will lead to success, we had the same argument around Fulmer, that worked out well.

I'm incapable of actually rooting against the Vols in the game, but I have to admit that I got over the loss this Saturday a whole lot faster than I would've if I weren't hoping to see the coach fired.

Never ok.

If we were winning, we wouldn't need a new coach. But, since we are losing, things will take care of themselves. Why the heck would someone wish we would lose? At this point in time it won't matter if we win or lose, so why wish for them to lose? If you were wishing they would lose earlier in the year, then I seriously question your "fandom".

So far TN has lost 5 games by an average of two touchdowns:hi:

Kudos to those who believe what you believe. That is a new approach.

if sacrificing a game means the program will be better off, I'm accepting the L. W's and L's will come and go and sacrificing one game for the betterment of the program in the long term is how I look at it.
Problem is that an L seldom guarantees any specific coach and some on here want UT to lose to watch Dooley fail. I will never want an L to watch a UT coach fail.
Big picture.

I don't even waste my Saturdays watching this garbage anymore. Too pretty in autumn to spend my days deteriorating indoors watching us get mauled by the teabaggers or watching our valiant gladiators beat the crap out of some little girls school like Troy State, or Troy, or whatever the f*** they go by these days. ZZZZzzzzz...........

I created this thread before the USCjr game and a few people actually admitted they wanted us to lose. Most people wont come out and say it, they beat around the bush and say we arent going to win,etc.... Its sad if you ask me.

So, for the sake of argument, why don't you rank your scholie players top to bottom. Chop off the top 25 or so with the exception of a couple. Come back and toot your horn 3 years from now. You do that and CDD will wipe your lizard ass up and down the field.

It sucks to be put in this situation, but, we have to look at the long term..

I have disagreed with you in the past Fade and I have never been a negavol. However, I stand by you and your point on this. I never want to lose but for the betterment of the future of the program - yes. I hate to say that and it hurts but if we are to continue down the road we are on, it will not matter because our losing ways will continue and no one will wantbto coach and/or play here. We need to right this ship now! Sorry to all others but I hate seeing our program in this state!

I've been on the fence about Dooley but have finally accepted the fact that we have to go through yet another coaching change if we want to win championships. That being said I could never hope the Vols lose.
