Is it EVER ok to..........

Want us to lose a game if it means the difference between starting over with a homerun hire or returning a coach that has proven to be unqualified for he job? In other words, if you knew winning Saturday meant Dooley returns regardless of what happens the rest of the year, and losing meant he would be dismissed at years end to be replaced with Gruden or whoever you consider a homerun hire, could you want us to lose??

I have to admit, it's debatable for me with no clear answer.

You are quite the cynic.

I never want them to lose, but I'm also but spending and money on them while Dooley is around.

I don't go against us ever, but I will say that sometimes a big loss can become a huge win down the road... Hint Hint

I trust Hart enough that I would never rot for a loss. Particularly against teams like Vandy or Kentucky

No. Until Coach Dooley actually underperforms I refuse to admit he isn't the man for the job. Losing to top 15 teams close does not count as underperforming. People need to quit acting like he is the reason Tennessee's standards have fallen. 3-4 years ago no way this team beats NC State or is even competitive with any team Tennessee has played to date.

Really sad. Not a VFL IMO

I think he just has the guts to say what a lot of people feel on this board. Dooley is NOT the answer. I think whatever needs to be done to get a proven coach needs to be done ASAP when the season ends. I don't care if its dirty and we hire Gruden under table and say hey let us fire Dooley then say your coming. I just want to win no matter the price of the coach. I don't want to cheat and win but I want a coach who can develop talent and no matter what his price is I want us to get him here.

I have seen this question asked elsewhere and it absolutely boggles my mind that anyone who calls himself or herself a UT fan would even ask or imagine the question. For me, it is a matter of the heart, not the head because I have Big Orange blood. I have no choice but to want the Vols to win in EVERYTHING. I have been a Big Orange fan since conception. It was passed from my mother and father to me.

If there was a UT tiddlywinks team, I would want them to crush every team they play...especially bammer! GBO

florida - mississippi state 10/23/04.

greatest loss in florida football history

Dude the difference between Gator fans and Tennessee fans is Tennessee fans don't want to be the bad guy and fire someone for average mediocre coaching.
:banghead2: :banghead2: :banghead2: :banghead2:

Personally.....I have fired several people in my adult life...have no problem doing it....if my company hires you to do a job and you are not performing it at the level we expect and costing me and my superiors money everyday you are an employee....well I will gladly show you the door and feel not one bit sorry about doing it.

Florida fans will not tolerate that S#!T for one season....Bama fans either

I personally want Dooley to continue down the path he is on for the greater good of the program. It makes no sense to me how more Vol fans feel sorry for Dooley and believe he needs more years here to prove nothing. IMO they themselves are part of the problem and not the solution.

We beat Georgia 3 years ago. And South Carolina. Both teams were better than this NC State team.

But I get what you're saying. I mean it's not like Dooley has lost to Kentucky. Oh wait...

I want the best for the school and football program I love. If that means losing to get rid of a dead weight, going nowhere coach, then so be it.

I understand where you're coming from. But I think Hart will fire him if he thinks Dooley isn't going to work. So it will probably happen. I don't need to root against UT for this to happen.

For the longest time I defended Derek on here; no more. I can't look at his resume and say he can stay. That said, I also can't root against the Vols. Even if we wind up with another year of Dooley, I want the Vols to win. I won't, however, mourn for very long if I get the news that Derek has been canned and a long list of prominent names are already attached to the coaching search.

I've seen teams win big games with a lot less talent then us... Coaching is key. Look what Harbaugh did for the 49ers and Alex Smith. He helped Luck out at Standford too. Great coaches get the best out of another mans failures.

Lots of over-emotionalizing and "I'm a better fan than you" on my thread. Kudos to those of you who are able to think big picture and in pragmatic terms for the good of the program.........and be honest about it.

Do you ever say you want UT to lose to preserve say, FL's or AL's undefeated season? I am a Bama fan 2nd and you will NEVER hear me say that I want UT to lose, even to save an undefeated season by the eventual NCAA champ.

Um in 2009 we beat SC that was ranked 21 in country... Not that it counts or anything... Also happened to beat GA and lost to Bama on a blocked kick at the end of the game... Bama didn't beat us by 20+ or anything this year tho... Def see where Dooley needs atleast two maybe three more years...

I would also like to say I am no longer invested enough in the team this season to watch the games. I have stopped watching in favor of getting productive things done. I won't go out of my way to watch the team lose. I certainly expect to be told I'm not a good fan for that, but I don't care. I've watched this team win a national title; I won't watch them compete for the honor of the worst team in the conference.

here's the deal, seriously.

for sake of argument, let's accept the premise that dooley is completely blameless for these three seasons. just for fun.

now, the question is, do you believe derek dooley will lead tennessee to a championship (because that is the goal) in the next five years?

imo, the answer is no. i don't see it in recruiting. i don't see it in his staff. i don't see it on the field.

and so, might as well as get on with the future.

I can't believe I actually agree. This season is over. I would rather take the medicine now and start rebuilding next year. This could be the real "year zero". It is time to move on. I want to win against good teams. Not beat the equivelent of 7 Georgia States each year and act like we are improving.
