I think some on here need a crash course on how coaching changes work

i know some of you all can't wait to get rid of dd but nothing is ging to happen till after the season.if dd wins out and goes to a bowl and wins,he will be back.

I disagree. I get your point with the 8-5 thing, but he is 0-12 against our rivals. It's like Auburn/ Bama, if you lose to that team (UGA, FLA, BAMA, SCAR) three years in a row, you will not have a job. I believe if he would have won two of these in 3 years your argument could hold water. I just don't see it.

5) Hart's silence on all things Dooley is probably the most damning evidence we have that there will be change. Much like we saw from the Auburn AD last week, all it takes is a newsblast or radio spot to simmer down the fanbase until season's end. As Hart stays silent, and the fanbase gets more rowdy, a scenario with Dooley in 2013 becomes more challenging for the program on many fronts.

Or he is just waiting to see how we finish the season. I think this is a more reasonable approach for Hart and interpretation for us. Even a mildly-logical person (not directed against the op, by the way) would have to admit that you COULD defend keeping Dooley if we win out, but that defense is greatly weakened with loses from the lesser opponents we will be facing the rest of the season.

Why would Hart say we are keeping Dooley, only then to lose to weak opponents and have to go back and fire him?

Nice thread, I just strongly disagree with your 5th point.

1) Gruden/the next HC will not be announced within the same week that Dooley would be canned. Not only is it bad form on the University's part, but there's still lots of things to get through during the hiring process.

2) There's no rush in hiring the next coach. It's not like he is going to come in and coach the rest of the season. In an ideal situation, he is hired after a bowl bid is secured. It allows him to see the team practice and hit recruiting hard.

3) There's also no rush in firing Dooley. It's hard to believe that an interim coaching situation would win more games than keeping the status quo for the rest of the season. While many fans say this season is over already - going to a bowl game and getting 8 wins is important for offseason training & extra cash for an AD that is hurting financially.

4) In Gruden's case in particular, the last Monday Night Football is December 22nd. I'm not sure what his contract with ESPN is like, but there's a good chance that if he was the guy, it wouldn't be officially announced until after that.

Hope you are right.

Didn't say it would happen. I was saying I understand people's interpretation of a quality season if we win out and win the bowl game. I was saying I don't think it will matter either way. He didn't get his signature win(s) this year and will be gone before we play our bowl game.

It is very possible we beat our last 4. We have talent and as long as our boys show up, we SHOULDN'T lose to any of the last 4. Will it happen, no idea.

What a short memory we have. Wasn't Coach Fulmer fired before the end of the season and wasn't Coach Majors shown the door early as well? I don't agree with the way either was handled, but it did not stop us from parting ways with coaches who not only won many big games but they were also VFL.

those 4 teams are in the top 10.we showed improvement in every one of those games except the al. game.if we finish at 8-5,that will show improvement also.i just can't see hart fireing dd if improvement is being shown.

i know wins in the last 4 games don't mean as much as wins against our biggest rivals but they will still be wins.i see people typing, a loss is still a loss all the time.well,a win is still a win.

i just want whats best for the team and it maybe another coach.if dd gets fired and he does go 8-5 to finish the year.to say he got a fair shot at turning this team around, will be completely wrong.jmo

Bingo.

The damage is done. Dooley is going nowhere until after the Kentucky game and I'm confused why anyone would want anything else. Of course it would be nice to get the word that Dooley will not coach next year but it's more damaging to can Dooley now than after Kentucky. Say you do fire Dooley now, you really don't expect Gruden to come in mid week and coach these last few games? And people worrying about recruiting, the worst thing is to name an intern coach. The best thing that can happen to us is to keep Dooley until Kentucky and then bring in a new coach. If we do make a bowl game, expect him to coach that final game as well. Nothing happens until the season is over and if it does, huge mistake on UTs part.
Hate to break your heart, but Dooley will be coaching Tennessee next year.

If we are firing him, we need to now. It will be hard to fire a coach after he wins 4 straight games to close the season..

No it wont. Since when does 4 garbage wins forgive being the laughing stock of the sec? Tennessee is no longer in the same conversation as Florida, Georgia, LSU, Bama, etc. It's UT, Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss and maybe Mizzou. That's the group that we are bundled with now. Go meet some other fans and see what they think of UT...first problem will be getting them to remember we still have a football team.

At this point Dooley and the rest of the staff are coaching for their next job so there's plenty of motivation for them to get this team to 7-5 + bowl game which means win out.

Hopefully players have enough pride and motiviation to do what it takes to play their best regardless of the uncertainty around them.

No reason why Gruden's cant do the MNF gig after accepting the UT job. He can fly out on Sunday in a private jet to the location just like he does on Sat now on commerical. As long as he's there Sunday evening, he's probably ok. The rest of the week, he can recruit and work for UT.
