If we had Chavis, or a DC near his caliber...

we would be Number 1 in the east with a possible NC on the horizon... just sayin

Anyone who cant see that is a fool..

I submit that also our O would be doing even better then they are, not having the pressure of having to put together all these comebacks in order to even be in the game at the end.

If we can get gruden.. Do it!! He is way to big of a name to pass up if we can get him..

But if they are just going to hire another unproven commodity..

then re-work the defense and give Dooley another year..

JMO, flame if you want

I agree and if Notre Dame had our Schedule, they would have lost at least four games.

which is why I said possible NC...

Bama would have still been a nail biter.. but who knows how much better our O would have performed if they had any faith at all in our D. Takes a lot of pressure away when you can take a couple chances.. like going for it on 4th down etc.. because you know your D will stop them anyway..

....we'd be complaining about our DB's playing 15 yards off the recievers and "3rd and Chavis"...

I would rather give up some third down conversions and stop them on the next set of downs then just letting other teams break 70 yard runs to put a win out of reach..

You dont know how good you have it till its gone...

"3rd and Chavis" is better than "1st and Sal", "2nd and Sal", and "3rd and Sal"

Yes, it is, but the grass is always greener in the other pasture, to many. If Chavis was here we would be *****in' about how the 3d and long defense and that it was time for him to go.

Sometimes, you don't know what you have until it's gone (Fulmer supporters, this is not an endorsement of your guy, just Chavis).

Chavis has only ever proven 1 thing. He has great defenses when he has NFL caliber talent. When he doesn't, he is mediocre at best. He also is known as someone who doesn't like to, and won't travel much to recruit. LSU is a perfect fit, NFL talent in state. I like Chavis as he is a Vol at heart, but when we lacked Henderson type lineman, his defenses were painful to watch, and he always had much more talent in the secondary than UT has now. If your point is we would have more talent at DB if he were here, then maybe. Other than that, I am not sure how the Mustang package would make this D any better.

Notre Dame has beaten 4 top 25 teams.

Maybe at the time they played them.

Unless I've miscounted, they have played 3 teams in the this past week's BCS top 25 standings, with only 1 in the top 10. After this week, it will be zero.

There's a big difference between Bama, Florida, Miss St, Georgia, and South Carolina compared with Stanford, Mich St, Michigan, and Oklahoma. I think Michigan would agree with that.

True, Boot given Dooley said he didn't spend time with the defense last night 8 games in should tell you he thinks Sal is the man... Time for Big Change!

Have no idea where this came from but though we've had problems on both sides of the ball, when it comes down to it it's been the Defense that's been nothing short of a disaster. We're not even near the middle but basically on the bottom allowing 35+ points in five SEC games.

Since John "The Chief" Chavis has gone to LSU, they're Defense has always been in the Top 10-15. Sure the final year in which Fulmer was let go and Chavis took control wasn't good but overall "The Chief" built UT Defense into one of the best. He knows UT well enough and the SEC. On top of that he had a stellar resume of NFL players that would get recruits in. I'm not sure of someone already a HC but DC & OC's out there always dream of being a HC (Can you say Cutcliffe) and some of the best HC's out there were once them. Bring "The Chief" in and in two or so years grab Manning to be OC.

I think you are wrong. John Chavis has a talented LSU defense---our defensive talent is seriously overrated. What's John Chavis going to do with a defense that gave up 500 plus yards multiple times to quality SEC teams---NOTHING. You can't make chicken out of chicken salad.

Yes, let's get Dooley another year---I won't even bother to throw out the stats...they are dismal.

There really is no need to say anything--UT would risk alienating even more of the fan base if they keep this guy. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

We could use Jim Harbaugh, Bill Bellichik, as OC and DC too.

Maybe even Steve Young as QB coach.

Hell Idk, Maybe even Barry Sanders as RB coach, and bring his son with him

Chief should be at LSU. His failures on 3rd down led to him leaving with Fulmer.

Just because the guy we have now is terrible, doesn't make Chavis any better.

Stop dreaming.
