So what if we as fans get our wish....

Damn it sucks that with 4-5 more games to go this season, we're already forced to look to next year. :banghead2:

Wins and losses are a secondary focus right now. Keep the games against the top SEC teams close and win what you're supposed to, win the bowl game and go into next year. Because we were a trash fire by the time DD was hired as a team and an athletic department it'll take til 2015 to compete for SEC east no matter the coach.

And I 100% believe we should beat those teams next year. We won't contend for Atlanta in December til 2015, but next year is when we start to win one or two of these close October games. Thanks to 07-09 we were in a 3 year deficit to these teams when DD was hired at a time when the SEC is just murdering people. The base is almost built but it'll take another cycle to get to an SEC calibur 2 deep roster.

What are you basing this on?

No one is teaching them fundamentals now. Never seen a team so damn intent on not wrapping up to make a freakin tackle. Byron Moore is the worst ive seen.

Secondary was a trash fire last year, add in learning a new scheme and they're this. Those fundamentals are a problem for every program now, reteaching tackling to a bunch of kids who have tried to make Sports Center hits since they were 8, it's a problem everywhere. Rest of our D is fairly solid, would be more so if we didn't have to try and compensate so much for our back 4. It throws whole D off having to do that.

just speaking for me i wouldnt mind giving gruden (or someone with his background) a few years shot, the problem i have with dooley is that he has never been a proven winner anywhere in his coaching past. its hard to bet on a guy when youve never seen him win.

See Fister....I can appreciate this^......there's nothing irrational in that post......many have painted me as a Dooley supporter, but I just try to be realistic,

Observation, I saw a team today that fought more than I've seen since LSU 2010, Bama 2009. They have to learn to stay in it for 60, then consistency comes, then wins. It's a process. They're doing the small things better and they're on the edge of putting it together and stringing games together. Plus they match up so much better with SC and UGA than UF, Bama, Oregon.

I think it's important to remember that coaching teenagers that are average is very different than coaching top notch players that are adults. I'm not defending Dooley...I'm just not sure that Gruden would be a slam dunk. Granted, he has some assistant coaching experience collegiately, but who doesn't. Saban, Spurrier, and Meyer are slam dunks if you ask me.

Guys, Gruden didn't light up the score board in Tampa. He won with D. Granted, this year's O with a solid D would have UT sitting a lot better than 3-5.

Gruden isn't coming to UT. I know it's a pipe dream for a lot of you but it ain't happenin!

...and Gruden is hired? What happens if he is not able to lead us to wins right away? Now I personally think that with Gruden we could get a lot of teams commits to flop and sign with TN.
Please dont bash me for a stupid thread, I am just asking what is the realistic expectations with a Homerun hire.

Just want to ask Volnation if Gruden hire would be more logical than somebody already coaching the college ranks.

I agree it is time for Dooley to go.

I have not doudt that Gruden WILL/CAN git er dun.

However; he will not remain here for the long term. He will do as Urban Crier did at Florida. Stay for a few seasons and have great success, then get burned out and leave.
Gruden will win soon and will win big, but he is not the long term solution...

What if we fire Dooley like everyone wants and Gruden says no? He may have zero desire to recruit 365 days a year and teach 18 year olds the fundamentals. I have no clue what he wants. He may jump on the offer and be our coach for the next 10 years. I'm just curious if those wanting to fire Dooley tomorrow would still want that if Gruden declines our offer and we scramble to get another up and coming coach.

Dooley will not be fired without having a new coach waiting whether Gruden or someone else you can count on that much

Saban went 6-6 his first year at Alabama...Then he got his first FULL recruiting class in...And the rest is history...For some people its doesn't take years to build a program....Gruden would draw top recruits from all over the country.

Saban had already proven himself in college football. Gruden has not........sorry your logic fails.

I agree to the point of back 4. Lathers is doing all he can. The other three need to step, but seem a bit lazy. Yes our takling is bad. But we can do it. Look back to the ncst game. Running backs and wide recievers were blocking and tackling. What happened to that?

:clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

5 clappy guys for this. Jon Gruden owes his wins in Tampa to Monte Kiffin's top-10 defense. I've proven this in other posts.
