Official Jon Gruden Thread III

I have agreed with you about everything being possible but this I don't. I see anything more than a verbal agreement to be impossible until DD is let go officially.

Maybe so. A verbal agreement, a MOU, or a LOI are all just formalities to ensure everyone is on the same page and are effectively the same thing.

i changed my thinking a little on the media denial of Gruden interest in UT. it makes sense that they would tell nothing they know. no way you would take any risk being blackballed from Grudens staff. explains Hubbs vague comments.

Sounds promising. Thanks man. Imo Gruden could have gotten back into the NFL before now and knows he can win at that level. Maybe its just me hoping but I can see where he would want to prove he could win at a big time university and conference. Plus if its Cleveland thats an aweful job, but he did go to college in Ohio I believe so there is that angle also. But hopefully it's the first one and his ego wants to see if he can win a Super Bowl and a NC. Has any coach ever won both?

Jimmy Johnson did. I think there is one more. I could see the Eagles, Cowboys, and Carolina as options for him. I also think this is the last year he gets paid by Tampa.

Basilio just said the ONLY job in college Gruden is considering is UT and that Arkansas is dreaming. They would like to get in the conversation but no can do.

Yes, I can believe that. I can believe that Hart and Cheek and Haslam want Jon for the job. And I can believe that Jon has said that he will consider it and might even be looking closely at it.

But will he take it....?

Just because Dools is out, doesn't automatically mean that Jon is in.

Anyone hear Jimmy Hyams on Nashville radio this morning?

Why is that? You don't think he would sign a MOU/LOI knowing that Dooley has in fact been told he's done?

Some of you saying "bye" to players that support their coach or try to make a stand until their coach is gone are off base. Why in the world would it be a bad thing for a kid who signed with Dooley to support him.

Well, say goodbye to Tiny, AJ, James and others. I think that outlook by fans is petty and weak, regardless of who you want to be coach next year.

Tiny , AJ and James are not going any place. No way they go set out for a year or to a FCS school. I doubt Dooley has that kind of impact on these kids lives. It's for sure he's not having a coaching impact on them. If you think any of these players leaves then I feel for you. Who would you rather have coaching you , Dooley or Gruden ?

Here is a country boys opinion. Dooley is left to coach this game because SC should have more talent than us and should win. Then, interim coach takes over and wins the last four games of the year. Now we can use the recruiting pitch that we have indeed turned the corner by getting rid of our problem, all the while our NEW coach is recruiting and taking notes.

Anything in writing passes the line for a coach discussing a job that isn't open IMO. That is why I see only a verbal agreement being possible.

Who is the interim coach?

Ainge continues his very overt Gruden hints this morning.....saying the contract is for 10 years/ $50mil.

I had heard 7 years, but this coincides with what I was told that there was an interest on both sides for a very long term deal. It also affirms what I was told that Gru wants to be here for personal reasons.

Somebody posted an anonymous quote yesterday that basically said, "I hope this guy can coach, cause we're stuck with him for a long time."

I was told 10/50 mil by a former player who is enployeed by my wife. He says he was told by someone in the a d.

No it doesn't. Especially if Dooley has been told. Take a look at other schools and how they've gone about their hiring process...most recently tOSU.
