Despite the constant 'chatter' and speculation that's out there,, there's no big 'silent treatment' going on and Hart has been in conversations with his coach. Hart has stayed out of Dooley's way but he hasn't avoided the head coach. It was interesting in that Hart was on the practice field this week watching. It's the first time we in the media have seen him there since back in September. Obviously we don't see all of practice as we only watch the first 30 minutes or so. Hart may have watched other practices over the last few weeks after we were removed, but he's not big on watching practices and hovering around so everyone took note of him being on the practice field earlier in the week.

Jon Gruden has talked to some coaching friends about possibly joining him on a staff somewhere. Tennessee is one of those somewhere's he has talked to them about if that opportunity were to present itself. But he's also talked to people about joining him at potential NFL stops as well. Gruden has also talked to coaches who have coached in the pro ranks as well as the college ranks as he evaluates the notion of both.

The college game is something he has never given serious consideration to doing. He reportedly interviewed at Miami a couple of years ago for the Canes job but it was never serious. It was more Gruden telling Miami what he thought their program needed.

Now, many people who know Gruden will tell you that he will be coaching somewhere next year and a lot of them feel like he's better built to coach in the NFL. But all of them tell you they have no idea what his plans are other than they think he will be back in coaching in 2012 as this is the final year he is getting paid by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Also, there's a perception out there that Gruden almost certainly prefers a warmer region, which seemingly wouldn't be good for the expected NFL openings in Cleveland and Philadelphia.

So, to sort of sum it all up, we do believe that, if Tennessee were to make a coaching change, Gruden would absolutely be contacted, probably would be contacted first, but nothing we've heard to this point suggests that any decision has been made by either Tennessee and Dave Hart on Dooley's future or by Gruden on where and if he'll be coaching in 2013.

A guy who defensively has been making a big move but we're not ready to say will burn a redshirt and crack the rotation is Danny O'Brien. Even so, it wouldn't be surprising to see O'Brien earn a spot on the charter to Columbia, if only as reward for his tireless work on the practice field.

Tennessee will also evaluate North's teammate Brian Walker while in town. The Vols will also see current quarterback commitment in the Charlotte area.

It also wouldn't be a surprise to hear of Tennessee seeing numerous 2014 players in the Charlotte area, like Jeb Blazevich, Robert Dinkins, Will Grier and more.

Tennessee coaches will also be in South Carolina and will hit 2014 hard as well. Some of the targets expected to be seen include Kevin Crosby, Aggaadoria Bowers, Jacob Park, Kalan Ritchie, Caleb Kinlaw and more.

Also, Tennessee has offered Greensboro, North Carolina defensive end Lorenzo Featherston. The 6-7, 215 Featherston is a member of the class of 2014.

Dont be shocked if we get our doors blown off saturday. this team may surprise me and show up ready to play, but i doubt it. Hopefully a couple of the young guys will give us a boost on defense.

It's hard not to. Not saying you're not right. I've heard the same story from several people. It's just that we're almost conditioned at this point for disappointment. Is been awhile since anything positive happened to the football program.

If Skeeter's post above doesn't epitomize your post, I don't know what does.

Also...and these words are like acid to me...I agree.

Not to take this off football, but the attitude of the fan base right now hits pretty close to home for me. As a Red Sox fan it has so many parallels to pre 2004. You desperately want to see success on the field, but you can't let yourself get 100% behind them because you are expecting that punch to the gut to come any minute. This is going to be so sweet when they get back to the top tho, you can bet that!

off the current topic,

why do we continue to throw to Devrin Young out of the backfield?

it fools No one and the results have been a disaster
when he checks in a game its clearly not to pass block.

Marlin Lane is clearly the better passing situation RB.

I want this team to succeed so bad, but it always seems like guys arent put in the best position to succeed.

I'm not convinced the outcome of the USCe game makes a difference. UT is losing paying fans in droves. Some sort of change almost has to be made.

If the decision has already been made then I agree. But I do think that one thing it will determine is the timeline. The worse the loss, the sooner we would hear about a change IMO. A big win and it will keep lingering on. Again, this is assuming a decision has been made already which we obviously won't hear a definitive answer on either way.

Jay question for you, If UT signs a RB like D Green for next year, do you think we will see DY in the backfield at all next year, barring injuries?

I would rather roll with Dooley another year than take a chance on Kirby Smart. Hart is a smart man...I just don't see him getting rid of Dooley, unless he has a proven head coach on the other line who is ready to take the job. I think Hart knows if he is going to replace Dooley, then he needs a hire that brings excitement and will unite this fanbase...Kirby Smart does not accomplish this IMO.

If the fans quit supporting and showing up.

He will make a change just to get a buzz going.

This is a major problem. Similar to Auburn's AD having to write a letter students begging them to support the football team. Everyone is saying if Dooley wins out no way you fire. Man please he's gotting me not wanting to really watch UT games right now. I know my team will look poorly coached outside of three units(RBs, OL and DBs-talent is the problem not coaching). Everybody else looks bad to me. And while Hinshaw can recruit Charlie Bagget is a much much better WR coach and it's not even close.

I have to admit, this is a first for me.

I will NEVER root against my team but I'm afraid of any scenario that leads to DD & co. coming back next year. Baring us absolutely demolishing SC tomorrow; we needed to show *consistent* improvement against the best competition on our schedule and, while there were glimpses, it just wasn't consistent enough and FAR too often we looked out-coached more so than "out-talented."

SN: I heard Jimmy Hyams on 104.5 this AM say that he didn't think the job was any more attractive now than it was 3 years ago when DD took over.

Is he f'ing kidding?!? 3 years ago we had students burning effigies of Kiffin in the streets, a roster that would make swiss cheese look like a brick wall, and barely enough talent to compete with UAB, Kentucky, & Vanderbilt.

Granted, our W-L record over the past 3 years is pathetic but you can't convince me that a GOOD HC couldn't come in here and have this team AT THE VERY LEAST competing with the SEC elite next year.

If the atmosphere before the Florida game doesn't showcase that this is a DESTINATION job, then I don't know what does....we just haven't won in 5 years and our image has been tarnished by a malaized and nearly-apathetic Fulmer, a HC who was all flash and no substance, and another HC who--under normal circumstances--would have hardly been considered for the position....with the right HC (JG, PLEASE!!!) UT can once again be a powerhouse of college football.

...Jimmy Hyams can suck it.

I am prepared to be bombarded :focus: but I dont feel like he should be seeing the field.

I'm all for CP returning Punts (ala Peter Warrick)

we get Nothing from DY to flip the field or even threaten to break a long Return

btw, CP's skills with the rock so reminds me of Peter Warrick its scary. for him to be that big with feet that good. :devilsmoke:

I said the EXACT same thing to my dad, uncle, and brother (Miss. State fans) a couple of weeks ago at the State game.

I stated this in the Corn Elder thread. #19 shouldn't be on scholarship and was a miss waiting to happen.

I think CP is a 6'3 Percy personally. He breaks/sheds more tackles than P-Dub to me. But our coaches only got him the ball once versus Bama. And all my Bama buddies are asking me how's he not touching it 10-15 times a game. He was taking the Miss. State game over but they feared doing it against the Bama defense even though you've got one of the Top 2 most explosive players in college football. Ridiculous.....

Definitely no flame on you for saying that Jay and I agree somewhat with BB. He served a purpose when he was brought to UT last year, but now it is very clear that we have other kids in place that deserve his reps. I mentioned a couple weeks back that I would love to see Pig back there with CP on kick returns and I have no idea how CP hasn't fielded a punt yet, expecially on those with a short field.

With Sutton and others coming on board next year I don't see DY being in the return game anymore and by adding another RB to pair with Neal, Lane, Que, Hill I don't see any carries for him either. We have had what, like 10 guys get carries this year between AJ, JK, CP and all the backs. That has to stop IMO. Get a bruiser and give the ball to our best options, period.

I agree. There really isn't any point to putting Young in the game as long as Neal and Lane are healthy. When he comes in the game you can usually determine what the play is before the snap.

I don't get why we let him return kickoffs either. Why not just put CP back there and have an extra blocker? And CP seems like he'd be much more of a threat at PR.

The last statement you made is what scares me about the current coaches.

He should be given as many touches as you can give him. Game changer on every level.
