Official Jon Gruden Thread III

Not in question:
Whether DD will be fired.
Whether the AD will pony up big bucks

The only question is who it will be. I have my fingers crossed for Gruden.

There is still a bit of a question mark on whether Dooley is fired, or gets to prove himself the rest of the season. If he loses to USC, I think he's definitely fired.

As long as the first two are there, Gruden wouldn't disappoint me THAT much.

If we could pull a Patterson or similar hire off, I'd be more than content. I will NOT be happy with Smart.

Maybe, but if we have to hire somebody, out of all the names available, would you not agree that Gruden is worth the risk? Over the likes of Strong, Smart, Patterson, etc.

Serious question.

Exactly what has Strong, Smart, or Patterson done that makes them a better hire than Gruden. What accomplishment as a head coach tops Grudens ability to win a Super Bowl.

Not attacking you, I agree that Gruden is the best choice.

I'd love to get Gruden, but at what cost?

This is all I am saying. We are a pretty desperate fan base. Big time hires at big time salaries are an excellent thing. 10 year contracts for record breaking amounts before you've even seen the guy coach a CF team are not so much.

On the positive side I do believe on name and recognition alone, plus SB ring bling while sitting in living rooms will catapult recruiting like a rocket. As long as he has Joe's and assistants willing to beat the street evaluating I believe we'll be at the very least good. My only point is at 5 million per year I believe errybody would be demanding great.

I'd think he would be able recruit nationwide like Mack Brown does within the state of Texas.

I'm here to stay. This thread should live on forever

I'm in the wait and see mode. If they are right then good for them but if they are wrong then nobody will trust them again. I just don't see any reason for people to try and bash them.
If nobody was giving any info on the situation then everybody would be complaining and as soon as they do they get bashed.
I don't care if we hire MIckey Mouse as long as we get Goofey aka Dooley off the sidelines.

This thread is kind of hard to follow now, but I just want to say thanks to Boro, SBV, Jay, Carter, DTO, and anyone else I'm missing that is trying to bring their info to the thread. Whether that info is true or not remains to be seen, but at least they are not saying there is no way they are wrong. As long as it flows like that, everyone can make their own assessment, and watch to see how this plays out. The ones that are debating them with honest questions even seems reasonable to me, but the ones that making stupid, smart elic remarks, calling for names of their sources, and calling these guys credibility into question is very annoying. If you think there is no way Gruden is happening, then why are you wasting so much time posting here and annoying those of us who are actually enjoying this thread??? If someone is on here that is obviously trolling, then the mods are usually pretty good about making that known.

Keep the info coming guys, there are some of us that want to hear it!

here's just a question, if some of you can just read the question, vs turning it into this we v they deal.

If DD is done and Hart has made a decision, why in the world is he spending more time with DD, his coaches, and team on the practice field this week? If he is done, why would he spend time evaluating them more than he has in 2 years?

I don't think anything is done till after the season period. All credible sources point to that. At that point if we fire Dooley it has to be a big name. If we hire a Smart or another coordinator we might as well keep Dooley.

Hart has spent time watching practice this year at other times. The media only saw him this time because he was there for the 30 minutes they are allowed to watch. That being said, I believe he hasn't made up his mind yet.

Gauging interest in who would be interested in staying on after or who's worth keeping?

Checkilist of mega boom for recruiting

1. has a sb ring
2. has been on tv for years and not in a negative light (aside from bucs firing)
3. he appears to have charisma, at least when he needs to
4. appears to have a passion for knowing all facets of the game, and appears to have intelligence to master them
5. he's not ugly, old enough to give off some authority/maturity but young enough not to come across as a stick in the mud

This list will ultimately lead to your disappointment and this reaction.

So what will you do if Gruden becomes coach?
