Official Jon Gruden Thread III

Hubbs on the job situation.

Our sources indicate to us that nothing has been decided and several sources have said it would be a big shock if anything were done before the end of the season. it doesn't appear that Hart is going to be making any comments or news in the immediate future.

Jon Gruden has talked to some coaching friends about possibly joining him on a staff somewhere. Tennessee is one of those somewhere's he has talked to them about if that opportunity were to present itself. But he's also talked to people about joining him at potential NFL stops as well. Gruden has also talked to coaches who have coached in the pro ranks as well as the college ranks as he evaluates the notion of both.

The college game is something he has never given serious consideration to doing.
Now, many people who know Gruden will tell you that he will be coaching somewhere next year and a lot of them feel like he's better built to coach in the NFL. But all of them tell you they have no idea what his plans are other than they think he will be back in coaching in 2012 as this is the final year he is getting paid by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Also, there's a perception out there that Gruden almost certainly prefers a warmer region, which seemingly wouldn't be good for the expected NFL openings in Cleveland and Philadelphia.

If Tennessee were to make a coaching change, Gruden would absolutely be contacted, probably would be contacted first, but nothing we've heard to this point suggests that any decision has been made by either Tennessee and Dave Hart on Dooley's future or by Gruden on where and if he'll be coaching in 2013

He also says that when/if Hart decides to make a change he will handle it much like Bama did when hiring Saban. Realizing that CFB is big business now and you have to pay big bucks to get the money back on your investment.

So that is encouraging.

BUT LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAYING, anyone who thinks anything is already decided or determined is SERIOUSLY setting themselves up for disappointment.

Dooley will not be fired next week unless something major happens on Saturday (losing by 30+). he will likely coach the rest of the season then an evaluation will be made.

I am sorry the rumor crew has gotten everyone riled up but Hubbs ALWAYS nails this kind of thing and if you think LWS and Hubbs are in the dark on this you are wrong.

Still hoping for the best from this season!

GO VOLS!

I think he'll be back. Hope so anyway. He did get a little hot under the collar last night which is something we all probably do. He's been around here for a good while, so I hope he lets that just roll off like water from a ducks
back.

I hope so too.

In summary, media folk who think Gruden is coming are solid and know wtf they are talking about.
Media folk who say he is not are hacks
And anonymous internet posters know more than all of them.

Good Morning Fellow Grudenites. Hope all is well with you all. Again Boro, jay, carter, AKA "the supreme keeper of all that is Gruden", Anything new? I heard Hyam on 104.5 this morning saying he has spoken to Boosters, and fans and is finding it much harder to find folks on Doolanders corner these days. "Thanks capt obvious"

Rucker is very skeptical on where we are with Gruden...yes lots of mutual interest but nothing....according to him is in the works right now. I think when you look at this financially UT has no choice.....over the football season over $100 million is poured into the local economy, each home game is worth over $6 million to the school. With dwindling attendance it will kill the area econimically for a long time. Obviously UT has no choice but to make a change!!!

Rucker is no fountain of knowledge.

Alot of rumblings and upset boosters. But, one in particular said not one of them has stepped up to the plate and commit to pay the buyout.

That statement gives credibility they have been asked about it.

But, it also shows no one so far is willing to do it. After the USCjr game, perhaps someone gets ready to do so. However, this makes me feel nothing has happened with Gruden except some calls to see if interested. TIFWIW

But, I had this convo with someone who does know a booster very well.

So, I think the buyout is a thing holding it up. I agree it should not be. Also, one booster may not know exactly how all other boosters are feeling.

I've been walkin the streets at night.
Hopin' Hart gets it right.
It's hard to see keepin' Dooley around.
Got the program stuck in the ground.
The games don't change but maybe the names.
I ain't got time for the pain.
We need you, Gruden, we need you!
To siiiiiiiign...

I approve this message.

But yet neither Hart or Gruden are denying any rumors about him being the next coach at UT. Hubbs is not stupid and he is not going to release anything without UTAD permission.

No they don't. They work hard but not to the level of NFL guys. The demands just aren't there in college.

We will have to agree to disagree. Recruting is much more work than preparing for the draft. Then add dealing with boosters and baby sitting kids with academic issues and that more than makes up for the less time on the practice field. College if anything is more time IMO.

Did you not read the part that Gruden has contacted possible assistants???? Thanks for the post, I'm more confident now!

I just spoke to a member of the knoxville media and a talk show host, who has been very outspoken saying Gruden isn't coming from the beginning. And now his tone has changed and he has apparently heard something to change his tone, but said he couldn't talk about it on the air or in the media.

....and the NegaGrudes arrive right on time.

Do you guys sync your alarm clocks, or do you all live together?

Ainge continues his very overt Gruden hints this morning.....saying the contract is for 10 years/ $50mil.

I had heard 7 years, but this coincides with what I was told that there was an interest on both sides for a very long term deal. It also affirms what I was told that Gru wants to be here for personal reasons.

Somebody posted an anonymous quote yesterday that basically said, "I hope this guy can coach, cause we're stuck with him for a long time."

It's one of the only ways any of this would makes sense.
