Dont be shocked if we get our doors blown off saturday. this team may surprise me and show up ready to play, but i doubt it. Hopefully a couple of the young guys will give us a boost on defense.

Why? Older guys checked out?

If so, that just enhances my point that our older class is mentally weak. I've said it all year actually. They don't have self pride. If they can't fight for themselves... how can they fight for each other? I hope they go out there with some anger on Saturday and win.

Minus the oline and rb's, everyone just seemed a little flat this week or a step slow. Maybe they come out and do just fine, they practiced great leading up to bama. Heck i dont know amymore.

IMO Tennessee fans and the University NEED Gruden to be hired! At this point a lot of fans have bought in and now some recruits are doing so as well. It wouldn't turn out good if this doesn't go as predicted (by some here on VN). The Unversity has had $5.3 million worth in empty seats in the last 9 non-sellout games going back to last season, and it will get worse. That's not even counting concession and souvenir sales that 97,000+ people would have bought.

This is my fear.

Couple a downtrodden UT team with a highly motivated South Carolina team and it could get ugly.

I really hate this. I was genuinely excited about this season. It's just been such a disappointment.

I don't blame Dooley as much as I blame this unending air of negativity that has lingered over our program for five or more years.

...when will it stop?

Don't doubt.

It's nothing personal against you or SpringBokVol or any others.

I just highly doubt this. When I step back, the big picture story doesn't make sense to me.

Gruden has a lucractive gig right now. And there are opportunities in the NFL.

If I were in Gruden's shoes, I don't think I'd want to step down to the college level having not been a head coach there before. It's a nasty business with unreasonable expectations and lots of long, thankless hours.

Too bad. I wish this team knew there were lots of fans out there like me who just enjoy watching Tennessee football, who would rather do without the drama, and who just want to see the boys go out there compete hard week in and week out.

Unfortunately, the level-headed, no drama fans like me tend to get drowned out by the guys who'd prefer we fired our head coach every two years and trash every player who makes a mistake.

I agree about Gruden. But I don't understand the reasoning that the college game is too much work. First, by all accounts Gruden is a workaholic. Secondly, the day-to-day grind of an NFL coach is apparently brutal and the off-season gets busier and busier with free agency, OTAs, and prep work for an extremely competitive league where few recruiting advantages exist. Ask Spurrier. Reports from the Redskins were that his days were only about half as long as they needed to be.

Yes sir the competition is crazy right now. He can't custom build a roster like he can in college. That's another reason Saban came back(besides only being a .500 pro coach). Less pressure to an extent too. And his coaching ability will be even more of an advantage. Gameplanning for a college defense is easy compared to pro schemes. He would've had fun with this offense and I hope they will return to school if he's the coach. #84 may not though he's a special talent that an NFL team will spend a first round pick on(Hopefully my Packers).

My biggest question about 84 is getting off tight man preassure. I would evaluate him on a 2nd round level till I could see him on tape consistantly get off press man.

He is special with the ball in his hands and I am talking like maybe as special as any guy I have seen come through here in the last 20 years, but I think the question is his routes and getting off press man. Both things I think time and coaching can teach.

That being said, he may be simply too good with the ball in his hands not to take.

I'm with the Gruden won't be the next coach group. I just don't see it. He is a NFL guy and I just don't see him wanting to have to deal with 18 - 20 yr old kids. And the recruiting, just don't know if he would want that headache year round. And I don't buy that he would hire coaches to do it for him. He has to build that relationship with those kids. Its going to be interesting as we go but I don't think anything will happen until after the season unless the rest of the season just sucks like the first past of it. The problem is not many coaches will even talk with Hart until after season, right? They wouldn't want it to get out before then. Especially if they are having a good season. Which I hope they are if we are considering them. lol

Heyward Bey went first round. Percy wasn't a true WR coming out either. CP84 is a 6'3 Percy Harvin. Our coaches just don't realize it and they are dumb for this BS. NC State and Florida games would've been enough for me. JH11 needs to come back to school he's no where near the WR he was before the injury.

He doesn't have to work like some to recruit. Gruden is a superstar. How hard is it for football guy to not like Gruden. Saban is a polarizing figure. Gruden has a much better feel about him with players. At least he knows how to have fun at times. Super Bowl rings light up a kid's eyes too.

I don't doubt his ability but that I just don't think he would come here. Now if he ended up here I would not have any trouble come on and saying that I was wrong, that I missed it. But this is just my feelings about the situation.

I got ripped for saying that four to five weeks ago. About JH.

You don't know anything about Gruden then. He was extremely polarizing in the Bucs organization. That was probably his biggest downfall. Most TB fans will agree with me on this. One of the biggest messes was his handling of "Mark" (yeah he said it multiple times) Alstott.

Dang SBV went all in didn't he? Just checked out the Gruden orgy #3 thread. I know the guy is for real as a source, and is money most of the time, but he missed bad on that Shannon mess. I am with the skeptics on here. I will not believe it till I see the press conference introducing him as the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

Bucs ownership and their GM was his biggest downfall. First two years he didn't have a single first round pick. Tampas ownership also didn't want to spend money to counter that and all the super stars aged at the same time. Tough to build a franchise under those circumstances.

Are you serious? He got the nerd soccer fan owners to get rid of one of the two men most responsible for the Bucs success, Rich McKay, so he could bring in his ***** boy Bruce Allen from the Raiders. He got who, and what he wanted that it was possible to get.

truth.
Bruce Allen came in and the two DESTROYED the Bucs Roster

Man Tampa Bay just sucks ass period. Gruden seems to have settled down some since he's taken time off from coaching. But your team/organization is trash man. Lol you should thank him for winning the Super Bowl for you. And don't come with the it was Dungy's team BS. Had this convo a week or two ago and showed where Dungy was a flawed coach(yes I said it). Dungy and Belichick both had equally great QBs but Dungy never could beat Bill. Why because of the Colts defense. Where was this great defensive mastermind? Because Bill had great gameplans against the Colts. Also Gruden was supposed to be in the Super Bowl with the Raiders but that BS call with the tuck rule stopped him.

SN: your Gruden hate is great but it's not like your team were say like my Green Bay Packers before and after he left(winning tradition). :)

I'm not going to spill too many beans, but Hubbs and the VQ staff have many interesting, positive (if you want Gruden at UT) angles on the potential of Gruden landing at Tennessee.
