Official Jon Gruden Thread III

If I remember right the Lovie Smith information didn't come from Vol Nation or any of the insiders here. It was all from Tony B. Yes they did whiff on Shannon, but that has been explain. If they whiff this time a ban bet is up (for OCI at least).

..and Tony B. NEVER said Lovie Smith was our next coach. Just said we had contacted him.

I know, I was asking if it would have an effect.

Don't know....doesn't matter ultimately. It would only serve to satisfy the fans....which I see as plenty of reason. But I'm not doing the negotiating, or writing the check.

I don't know Boro, but I believe what he is posting about DD's status and the potential timeline, because it makes sense.

DD's departure might be after SC or it might not. It depends more on whether DD will get reasonable and knock some $$$ off the buyout. My take is that UT is not going to be able to negotiate this down a bunch, so if DD will agree to around $4 million, this should get done sooner rather than later.

That would be logic, however. Now that Hart and DD are in a p!ssing match, and emotions are involved, who knows? The lawyers for both sides need to get their clients to simmer down, take the emotions out of this, and make a smart business decision that allows everybody to move on as gracefully as possible.

Not sure I see why Dooley would do that. He may never get another job where he can make $1M/yr. So going from $5M to $4M is a big jump.

I think people are just saying Dooley will be fired on Monday solely because they believe we will lose to South Carolina.

I don't think he gets fired if he wins. Ultimately he won't be the coach next year, I think that's clear to everyone. But if he keeps winning this year there is no reason to throw an interim out there. Gruden isn't going to come in mid-season and I hope everyone realizes that.

Who knows if Gruden is official or not, but you won't "officially" hear about it until Dooley is gone for one reason...Knoxville sports media that reports on the Vols won't give out information regarding Dooley being fired or Gruden being hired because they need the AD to be happy with them so they can stay in whatever loop they think they are in.

Go Vols

Gruden would be out recruiting his ass off for UT. Baleeedat.

Another problem I see with the buyout negotiation is that DD seems like a spoiled, "precious" youngest child with an entitlement mentality. He believes he is absolutely entitled to the full buyout and is going to kick and scream until he gets it. Somebody needs to explain to him that he is not squeaky clean in all of this and needs to back off just a bit so it gets done.

He would possibly because of the breech of contract issue by reaching out to UNC year while under contract. If we know about that much, there may be more we dont know about.

The information on RS, Lovie, and any other rumor before this was nowhere near as consistent with the information as the Gruden info has been.

You guys have me sold. I'm going streaking.

The Shannon stuff was real and down to the wire. Dooley's ego got in the way of that.

your in a thread with over 2,500 post about Gruden being named coach and DD being fired after M State, I mean Bama, no i mean Sc., and with all involved being friends with anonymous sources, and yet you find it hard to believe that a coach would be fired before the end of the season to ensure losses. :loco:
Yes .... I find that theory completely ridiculous. Short of throwing tear gas in the locker room, there shouldn't have been anything that could have been done to cause a loss to Wyoming.

WTF Freak! Just got a text that said SEC Media days and Jon Gruden. Clicked the link super excited and it was just a blog post!

The next text I get better say Jon Gruden has announced he will be the head coach of UT next year!

There is no such thing as a "sure thing" once the depositions start and the courts get involved. While it might not be a high probability, there is always some chance that DD could lose the entire amount.

Also, I don't know DD at all, but if he has any improprieties in his life, they likely will come to light as well.

Litigation is something most sane people try to avoid at all costs.

I imagine Dooley was worried he was hiring his replacement. If we fire Dooley this year there isn't an obvious interim coach on the staff, probably by design.

The latest from LWSVOL at TOS:
"I think all that has occurred to date is talk with 3rd or 4th parties to see if there is interest. there has been no deal even close to being made per my sources.

Hart and Tennessee would lose respect throughout the football universe to strike a deal before even having an opening. everyone checks on interest but having direct contact with a coach still in place, you cannot be trusted in the future.

I've checked with sources I know at ESPN and none believe Gruden is headed to any college but back to the NFL, next season. One source got that comment directly from a Gruden co-worker on Monday nights.

I realize that could change if talks get to a serious point but don't expect that until there is an opening or I should say IF there is an opening.

I've been out and getting text messages and emails with various places saying there is a done deal. I do not believe it is close to going that far. per my contacts"
Bottom line is that since Dave Hart came aboard, the leaks at the highest level in the UTAD have been sealed. Nobody has access to what Dave Hart is thinking or doing except Hart and Jimmy Cheek.

Hmmm.....if Dooley did win out there would be a lot more backlash if he was ousted. I don't know that anyone would mind if Gruden was the guy but anyone else.
