Official Jon Gruden Thread III

This is all very exciting, but no offense to SBV et al, but does no one question how these anonymous posters have so much "inside" info but journalists who make a living on reporting news somehow do not? Sure I would love to see Gruden at TN but Dooley hasn't even been let go yet! I don't doubt that contact has been made with Gruden from the powers that be, but to declare out of the clear blue sky that the deal is done is just too far fetched for me to believe. Hope I'm wrong though!

And again, a "newer' AD that did not hire him is constantly taking fire over him when there are no loyalties there. This is the biggest item left out of most assessments of what is transpiring.

I have no doubt Hart took over and gave him a pass last year, even the KY game was forgiven to an extent. He may have said "8 games is your mark next year", in fact I believe he did say this. After the way this year has gone BEYOND wins and losses, I do nto think Hart is willing to take one more bit of grief over Dooley and is getting his signature hire in all this. I happen to believe for numerous reasons that this is Coach Jon Gruden.

You have not moved from this position at all, you and the other "go-to's" seem to be unwavering....Thanks for the info buddy

Because, really, inside info is never supposed to get out. IF you tell something to a news guy, you know fo sho its coming out. News guys report what they are fed...

If I were doing a deal I would tell the news guys the exact opposite news, and tell the insiders to stfu...no offense to anyone here, thanks for what you do.

I was in on a candid conversation w a member of the Knoxville media who covers the Vols. He said there's been contact, but he thought it was far from being a done deal. TIFWIW

I think BC is kidding, but I will leave it alone just in case. Not a safe joke subject. My momma had breast cancer but survived it. If true, sorry BC.

Of course he is. Now I'm going to have to send him a strongly worded e-mail. Lots of exclamation points!

I do recall the general disgust several years ago when some Auburn boosters started negotiating with Petrino before Tubbs was fired. Many people here have said this is a huge strike against Petrino and his morals.

If SBV and the others are correct, are we and Gruden any better than Lauder, Auburn and Petrino?

Have to have money to pay for it? Or has TN Ag developed a money tree?

I heard Gruden will coach the hogs when this happens

These guys hear from a friend of a friend kinda deal. Journalists can't risk their reputation on that sort of thing. Also, most of the media relies on the University for access, and if they leaked anything while we were trying to get a deal done, they may lose those privileges.

Dooley has not given us anything near what Tubbs did at Auburn.

good point, but I'm not even considering Hubbs, Hyams, those guys basically work for the university. But yahoo sports or tmz sports, for example, would have those inside sources. Journalists definitely had the inside scoop during Saban's infamous last Miami press conf.

I understand the question as I have asked this as well. The internet allows for anonymous poster to say anything, and even though some have placed an ban bet on it, all they have to do get a new avatar.

However, there is something to be said for this as well, this same anonymous approach allows those insiders the opportunities to speak freely because it assures their protect (No way someone can trace the leak back to them). When dealing with those who are "in the business" means no matter much they are promised they will not be revealed... they are still at risk.

I am all in with Gruden :good!:

When someone says something to a person and they use that info to make an anonymous message board post the key si anonymous. It cannot be traced, no one will name names or they will lose friends, jobs, etc...

The media doesn't stay on the good side of the AD by reporting what they are told NOT to report. Not a difficult concept.

The media may know, I honestly think Ainge does, possibly Basilio, but the others are not tied in as well as they used to be before Hart. There have been over 20 job changes through attrition and combining of jobs that a lot of the old Knoxville medias contacts are now at other schools and no longer at UT. Combine that with them being hamstrung by the AD to put out whatever message they want, at any given time. in return for access. The media is less reliable than direct sources because the AD has to officially release news for the media to be able to report it.

I honestly think that for those other guys, this whole thing is so outlandish (keep in mind they are used to the mediocrity of UT lately) that it doesnt warrant a strong look.

Gotta be a Debbie Downer any chance you get, right?
