"This is not a family"

Ah, Dooley throwing players under the bus. That's something we haven't seen before.

Let's just ask this: is the quote true or not?

Certainly there seems to have been a disconnect between the players. But, I am a big believer that coaches put players in the position to win, but the players have to make it happen. Bray and Hunter seem to be mentally weak. We could have won the UGA game, and we could have won the MSU game. 3 and outs and turnovers will not win games. They are our big players, but they do not seem to make the big plays. Hunter- drop after drop (see Florida and Bama). Bray- too many turnovers and missed passes. We would have made it a game if Bray leads Howard against Bama.

quote JH retweed

Wes Rucker‏@wesrucker247
Dooley on Vols Jr WR Justin Hunter: He's "never" consistently performed like a first-round draft pick, "and he knows that." But he could.

I'd like to hear Dooley's entire quote ... all i see is "never" and "and he knows that"

Regardless of how he feels about it, JH is playing like complete $h1t! I love him like family, but everyone needs him to step up.

Oh shut up. You want Dooley to baby him? Or call him out to get his head straight? Because it's obviously not working in practices.

Hunter's been playing like a wuss and so far hasn't shown us that he's any better now than he was his freshman year.

I'd take Freshman Hunter over Junior Hunter right now.

is he not telling the truth? Also some context is needed

How is he throwing him under the bus he is just telling it like it is...1st round draft picks dont have alligator arms or drop passes

Calling Hunter out like he did is just is dumb. You don't call your players out in front of the media. Dooley obviously doesn't care either, because he's done it since he's been the HC here at UT.

can you provide the context or not? Obviously you know how the statement came about based on your posts.

what DD "said" is the truth isn't it?

Spurrier does it week in and week out...some coaches just bash players, for better or worse.

I don't think it's always a good tactic, but sometimes a player needs a kick in the pants like that to get them fired up.

This may not be one of those times, but then again, JH11 could come out with something extra to prove on Sat. We'll just have to wait and see.

(On getting more production from Justin Hunter)
"First of all, it has to be done in practice with a lot more consistency and Justin has to understand that playing receiver is not always clean and easy. There is a little grit that you have to do to get open, you are going to have to get hit and good receivers are able to make those kind of plays no matter what the circumstance. He's not there yet. We all want to talk about how he is a first-round pick and the number one pick in the draft and he can be that but he has never performed to that standard in my opinion and he knows that. He needs to focus on his development, on what does he do well, what are some things we can keep building on and how do we get there. He has great character, it is important to him and he has a lot of special qualities for a wideout but being able to go produce out there week-after-week is what matters."

I really like Justin Hunter - I support all the Vol players and would never say anything negative about these kids, but truth of the matter is, if you drop balls in the NFL, they simply don’t throw it to you anymore ...

He'll come around though, and i think he'll be great

So, it's ok for Dooley to call out Hunter in front of the media, right?? Would you say it would be ok for Hunter to call our Dooley in the media?? I mean, Dooley's record sucks right??

To answer your question, Hunter has played like crap, and what Dooley said was the truth. However, would you tell your wife she is fat, even if she is?? If Dooley wants to call our Hunter in front of the players and coaches, I'm all good with that, but don't continue to throw the players under the bus, for his moment of truth. People say that fans hurt recruiting, I can't imagine what a comment like that does in the minds of a 17 year old kid.

How many SEC Championship rings does Spurrier have?? He's earned that right, whereas, Dooley hasn't earned shat.

no, that's not JH's job. It is part of DD's job

bunch of nonsense unless you think this is breaking news to Hunter. Based on reading the entire answer he didn't throw anyone under the bus. Read the entire thing and get over it

Questioning or belittling your players skills in front of cameras is being a chickenshat. It doesn't matter how they play, because DD is the one ultimately responsible for having them ready to play. Dooley needs to suck it up and take some responsibility, and that's something he's tried as hard as he knows how to avoid.

IMO I think Hunter has the right to be upset. He came to UT with dreams of playing on Sundays. He came to UT expecting to be coached by some capable coaches. All the scouting services/draft services says he has all the tools to be a top pick in the draft. Of course, they just assumed that he would be coached along the way. It is very possible that Dooley and his coaches could cost these kids millions of dollars. Was Bray not a supposed top 2-3 QB going into this year? Once again, the people rating these kids just expect them to be coached up at a place like UT. They have lost millions of dollars while our coaches try and figure out why they can't coach.

Did you read the whole thing? Or did you just latch on to the tidbit that was posted earlier?
