Wide misconception UGA took a step back in their first year implementing the 3-4 when in fact they improved 15 spots in Total Defense from the year before.

Georgia 2009 finished 38th in total defense and fired Wille M.
Georgia 2010 finished 23rd in total defense after switching to the 3-4

This should put it in perspective how bad a job this staff is doing on Defense this year.

Well, you have to look at the many injuries we've had as well. Losing Randolph is brutal, Curt Maggit is pretty much non existent this year with his injury, Lathers is still playing hurt. But, yes there's a reason why Sal has never been a DC at a major college program.

Bottom line...we're just real thin in the front seven period especially on the line itself. It wouldn't matter 3-4, 4-3 or even a 4-4...

I like the way they took one player off the front line for the "3" in 3-4 thus more behind the line yet every friggin' week the opposition has some WR standing wide open waiting a TD pass

we have more depth now than we have had in 5 years ...more size too.

It seems as though we should be going statistically forward given the improvements , not backwards

there's no excuse for what's happening defensively

we are in late october and people still can't figure out who to cover.

it's an abomination defensively. it really is.

It's as though secondary has regressed to the point of freshmen in their first college game. It's absolutely awful.

Clawson is to Fulmer as the 3-4 is to Dooley. It was a big gamble to change defences in this crucial year and the gamble has lost. We will never know how much learning the new system crippled a defence that was not loaded with talent , but I am confident that it has hurt some. If only he had promoted Lance Thompson and kept the same system- the whole year might have turned out much better for UT and Dooley. Bad decisions always have consequences - suchas losing your job. Such is life. The fan base will not tolerate this mockery of a team any more. It is time for a change and Hart had better get a good one this time or else we could be looking at many more years of parity with Vandy and Ky. What a horrible thing that would be.

I am not an expert, but it seems to me that almost the entire secondary has played much worse this year. Maybe they cant understand the new system, but that doesnt explain why they are so slow. THe whole thing is a puzzle.

Besides the big run by yeldon toward the end I think they did a ok job against the run it's our datgum secondary is to freakin slow. We can't blitz either cuz that leaves them one on one and they can't flat out cover. That's why we are dropping backers to help. Just my two cents. Oh yeah And tackling is piss poor too

This has been stated multiple times, and each and every time, people refuse to acknowledge their defense was garbage in that 6-7 year. Giving up 29+ points in 6 or 7 games is terrible -- and that's exactly what UGA did.

Not arguing their lack of speed but being out of position and reacting slow as a play develops will make players look slow also..

I think it is a combination of the two..

That's what I said about Sal when Dooley hired him.

Disagree. Total defense is a misleading stat. We ranked well in total defense last year and we weren't a good defense. Georgia definitely had issues with the switch. The only reason their ranking improved was a much easier 2010 schedule.

Not only are they slow but they can't tackle. After watching replay after replay I'm convinced they really don't want to tackle. They never attack the ball carrier they usually just stick an arm out in a half ass attempt to make it look like their trying. I've never seen anything like it at Tennessee or anywhere else.
