i have decided to focus on the positive b/c it just sucks being negative all the time

and you are completely right - Zro has done what seniors are supposed to do - step up and make big plays for their team in key spots - really happy for him to go out like this

Zro's performance this year has really highlighted how tough it is to win in the SEC without a full compliment of seniors.

My fearless prediction: we beat South Carolina and Hart extends Dooley.
If this happens, we end up with a very strong recruiting class. Green, Bell, North ect.

I admire your optimism. I just can't see us beating them. They are too good.

I like Dooley. I really do. A big part of me (the sensible side) says he should get extended because of what he walked into. I get emotionally wrapped up in the whole situation and get tired of the same mistakes left and right that I attribute to coaching, but the reality is that every good team has lapses, but they have on field leadership and elite talent that allows them to make a play to make up for it shortly after. We don't have that.

I know it's a cliche, but Rome really wasn't built in a day. With the relationships Dooley has built, and the core of coaches we have now, I really feel like in 3 years this thing could be in high gear again. I know fans don't want to wait another 3 years, but it's the reality of where we are....regardless of who our coach is.

I wouldn't mind them switching from Chaney, though. I am not confident in his play-calling.

Great point. There is a lot to be said for players being in the same system with the same coaches for multiple years in a row. Would be nice to have that here for the first time in a while.

People like you were never good at sports, huh?

Spare me the rah rah crap, and stop trying to start something on here. I am a fan of this team, and will pull for them no matter what, but I just don't see us realistically beating South Carolina. I think South Carolina is the 2nd best team in the SEC (my opinion) and I just don't think we are good enough to pull it out.

Not to say I don't think we could ever win an upset (I went into SC & Florida realistically thinking we would win those games), but I don't think we match up well against them. I think Connor Shaw is very underrated, and Lattimore speaks for himself.

EDIT: And no, I wasn't legendary in high school athletics like I'm sure you were, judging by the tone of your posed question.

I didn't read all of this, but I quoted what you said because I think that's a terrible attitude to have. It's absolutely disgusting how fans "throw in the towel" before a game.

It's called an honest assessment.

Sorry, but I don't think it's disgusting to not take a fanatical approach and look at something logically and give a rational opinion. If you don't think we will lose, then that's fine. But there is nothing wrong with thinking we will lose. Ultimately, it's what the players think that matters, not what we think anyways.

I've been fans of many great teams and many bad teams over the years when it comes to the Titans, Vols, & Red Sox. However, I will never and have never gone into any game with a delusional attitude saying we will win when it's been so blatantly obvious everything is stacked against my team. So is it "disgusting" to think Alabama is going to absolutely destroy us this weekend? I don't think so, considering they are so dominant. SC isn't THAT good, but still great nonetheless, and giving them the respect they've earned with their play on the field in comparison to us when predicting the game is okay in my book.

From practice:

J. Williams working with 1s with Maggit out

Good stuff. :hi:

IMO, JWilliams is better served as the SAM OLB. he has physical tools to be able to attack TEs at the LOS.

Hope he takes advantage of this opportunity and has a strong showing. maybe push Curt to the Will in the near future, so he can get upfield more

EDIT

Just watched his Vid interview he is working at Jack.

I don't think the problem is with you in particular...its more this strange attitude that has developed with people almost gleefully talking about how bad Bama should beat UT.

I'd be a rich man if I had a dollar for every "Its gonna be ugly" or "Absolute slaughter" post that's been made in the last two weeks.

Alabama is an absolute monster who shouldn't have much trouble MOST teams (not just UT), but to me, it is "disgusting" when people refuse to have even the slightest bit of hope.

What is even worse is if you venture over into the football forum, you will see a thread that is trying to say that the program would be better off if we lost to Bama

Is this pic real??

This crap has gotten completely out of control. How can people feel the need to do this to our program? They have to be ignorant to not see the negative impact it has.

This literally accomplishes nothing. Dave Hart is not an idiot. He will not decide to fire or keep Dooley because the rock is or is not painted. What do these people not get?

I am so glad I am coming up to Knoxville this weekend, I have been gone too long. I am going to lay out any fans I hear bashing our team or our coaches this weekend (not literally). Get behind the Vols or get a new team.

If at the end of the year Hart feels that we need to make a move in another direction in terms of the coaching staff, I will get on board with that...even though it isn't what I want. But for the time being I am going to strap on my orange and white and support this team, staff and program.

Damn right I am proud to be a Vol and can't wait to beat Bama Saturday.

I know you aren't singling me out with the "gleefully" comment, but I have yet to talk to a fellow Vol fan who gleefully talks about the prospect of UT getting waxed by Bama.

I have hope, but realistically I can't see us competing with Bama for the entire 60 minutes.

In reality, I think the fact that last year we were competing with great teams for a half was a great sign. Then this year we are competing for the entire game, and just coming up short. I think we are getting close (not this season, yet), and the sensible side of my brain says Dooley will eventually get us there. He just needs more time. Hopefully the people making the decisions in the administration at UT are willing to be smart and give him at least 5 years.

That is absolute lunacy. Wins, wins, and more wins is the only thing that would be good for the program. And what students are doing to the rock is what is really disgusting. You wish some players would have rotations and catch whoever is doing to the rock... it would be like Little Italy. No one would see or hear a thing.

Our fanbase is pitiful...

EDIT: Parts of our fanbase are pitiful, and the sad thing is that they are the ones that go out of their way to get their opinion out there.

We may be pitiful, but I guarantee every coach of those teams, and the vast majority of their fanbases agree Dooley should be given more time. Until he proves he is a threat to beat them, they are going to love him.

Do you not understand that building anything begins with building an infrastructure. And whether it's sports, business, etc... it takes TIME. We live in such a "what have you done for me lately" society that it's laughable.

How people cannot understand what he agreed to take over when literally zero proven coached wanted any part of it is beyond me. I will admit that I have had my emotional reactions after games like anyone else, but you have to let sensibility take over at some point.

To do what he has done in only 3 years is nothing short of amazing, to be honest. I can't think of any better a job that could have been done in terms of program administration than what Dooley has done considering what he inherited.

Anyone...I repeat, anyone is going to make some mistakes along the way. Chuck Smith was obviously a mistake, as was Hiestand, but he recognized them and fixed them. Not having a RB coach was a mistake, and what Jay Graham has now done is nothing short of amazing, either. You can clearly see the improvements. Just have patience.
