not only that - it is hard to compare his recruiting at UL and Arky to what he would potentially do at UT

UT has historically recruited far better regardless of coach than either of his previous stops

I also dont get why so many think Gruden would be a home run hire - he has 3 years of college coaching experience - his system was known to be incredibly complex at the NFL level so one would think that would be very difficult to implement in college - we dont know how he would recruit - and his last job in the NFL ended poorly - that team got worse the longer he stayed

UT would never bring in a top 5 class with Petrino. UT can bring in top classes if we win and have a great recruiter, but they aren't going to come here without great recruiting. Not to mention, coaches have so much against Petrino, he won't stand a chance. Petrino's best shot at winning a NC is in the big 12 or pac 12

There's no way of teling if he could or not. He recruited well enough to get arkansas to a bcs bowl. Gotta count for something

95-81 record with Oakland and Tampa Bay? That is not bad. Rich McKay controlled the draft and the trade to acquire Gruden. Tampa didnt have the money to get players in FA nor the draft picks to develop players. Gruden and Rich also didnt agree on a lot. Trust me... that Buc roster was NOT on Gruden.

EDIT: I think the guy who replaced Rich was named Allen or something and he released the best players and drafted Cadillac Williams :crazy:

There is an easy way of telling. He has a team that had 2 consecutive 10 win seasons yet gets out recruited by Vanderbilt. How well has Petrino done against Saban?

gruden was famous for only wanting to deal with old QB's rich gannon, brad johnson, jeff garcia types that got old in tampa when it was obvious we needed a young 1st round QB

he had really good teams in the NFL too when he was winning then he kinda let the talent deplete in tampa

Petrino's Record:
Career: 8 Years, 75-26, .743 W-L% (Major Schools)
Bowl Record: 7 Bowls, 4-3, .571 W-L% (Major Bowls)
Major Schools: Louisville (41-9) and Arkansas (34-17)

Don't know much about Louisville, but Arky is a tough place to recruit. While Fayetteville is nice town, its 5 hours from anywhere. Also, Arkansas is not a cornucopia of talent and its tough to get top talent out of Texas and Louisiana.

I'm not sold on that rosters issues being Grudens fault. Pro sports have a GM for a reason. Tampa didnt want to spend money either.

I do know who it is and the only thing I am willing to say is that he is not coaching anywhere right now. Also, that is the main reason these talks can take place right now.
