Others have stated that TT said the buyout is on him and then you have orangeslice13 saying just the opposite.

I don't care who pays the darn thing, he just needs to go!

Are you saying you're in the know because you're responsible for tiling Thunder Thorton's pool?

I can neither confirm nor deny the principal parties involved.
And no I wouldn't say "in the know ".
I just know alot of people who will sometimes share info but most of the time they don't.

C'mon folks, no one who has a clue is going to spill it on VN. This is the last place they would allow that kind of information to appear. Chances are, unless we see a complete meltdown which is not likely, continued improvement will garner Coach Dooley another year at least. You can't put a timeline on building a competitive SEC team. It takes years, regardless of coaching staff, so enjoy the process. As long as the kids on the field and the staff have their heads geared toward progress we will be just fine. Why would Gruden or Strong want to deal with such an impatient and unrealistic fan base at any rate? I am not trying to start an argument with anyone, but think about it.

You're right, why would a good coach want fans who want wins.

We all want wins but there is no easy path. Do you really think Gruden could come to Knoxville and compete from day one? Winning in the SEC is certainly not as easy as many on VN seem to believe.

IMO, Gruden could get things turned around quicker than Dooley, not that he ever will and have zero confidence that he can...But Gruden could probably get 8 wins in his first year, then have UT competing for an SEC championship in his 3rd year.:twocents:

I thought all fan bases were like that, anyways all of them that mattered. :)

Maybe or maybe not, so what answer would you have for those wanting to fire Gruden after an 8-4 season without even a SEC east championship to show for it?

Are you talking about his 3rd year or which year? That could help my answer..Good question for discussion, btw.

You would see a fair number of fans wanting him replaced, unfairly so, after the first year with "only" an 8-4 to show for it considering the hype that would surround such a hire. After 3 we would be right where we are now with this discussion.

Seems like that is a better record than CDD has had in his 2 1/2 yrs. No one on here has said Gru would be 13-0 his first year. It's just that we Grudenites believe that if 13-0 is achieved, The Gru could get there quicker than the Dool.

IMO, an 8-4 record in his first year would be acceptable b/c it would be 2 games better than CDD's first year.

If Gruden goes 8-4 in his 3rd year, I wouldn't be happy, but would be willing to give him a fourth year as long he won 9 games(made improvement in his 2nd year), which would be doable,IMO.

So with the scenario of 8-4,9-3 and 8-4, I would be willing to give him a fourth year..He would be a lot more worthy of it than Dooley is at this point.:twocents:

I agree, an 8-4 season is very respectable in the SEC especially for any coaches first season. My question is how would the "Grudenites" respond to the critics, and there would be many, who expect a 9-3, or even a championship because of Grudens credentials and history given the money he would command coming in?

You would have some Grudenites respond by saying that it's acceptable and others that would not..But I think it's safe to say that we would all agree that it's better than 6-6..I'm willing to take that chance,though..Thank u for the good discussion.

With Tyler Bray, JH and CP likely coming back (the first two were probably gone to the NFL if we had a breakout season, but we haven't), Croom (6'5"), Bowles and Pig Howard at WR, plus it looks like we are on the verge of another monster WR haul (Paul Harris is already committed, and North and 6'5" JUCO WR Rumph are leaning toward UT), plus we are looking good for 5* RB Derrick Green...

Hell Yes! Gruden could take that talent and squash Saban's marbles with it.
