I think some people just refuse to buy the rumors because of their loyalty to Dooley. I'm not saying that is the case with you, Gman, but for many others it is. I don't know if it is really they have faith in Dooley's plan or they just want to gloat if people myself are wrong. Either way they refuse to hear anything that they perceive as anti-dooley.

To be fair, it's probably more than that. On its own, the rumors do seen quite ridiculous. You don't expect a coach with a Super Bowl ring who has turned down so many jobs to suddenly head to Knoxville.

I don't blame people one but for being skeptical about this. It's not surprising they want to see more proof before buying in (although I wish they would feel that way about Dooley).

So are you saying that all the rumors JUST came from here? Are people just wishing, or do you think that people may be hearing it from sources that just want it to be?

I'm saying these rumors would not even be discussed if he was not married to an ex UT cheerleader and was a GA here for one year. Given the above comment that is why this Gruden thread has spiked.

I remember when Dick Bumpas and Lovie Smith were a coach here as well, Does that mean they are coming as well?

Just performed a search on Google for Jon Gruden coaching rumors, NOTHING about him coming to UT NOTHING. I stand by earlier statement the only rumors swirling around about him being the next coach here is coming from this thread.

you're taking things posted in this thread way too seriously. If fact, you shouldn't take anything in this thread seriously

Lovie is just waiting on his ok from the TYS tower to land

I remember when it was rumored that Dooley and Kiffin were rumored to be hired here.....did that happen?

Oh, I agree 100%. I don't blame anyone for taking the info in this thread with a grain of salt. I was referring to the mass horde that come on this site with their eyes squeezed shut, hands over ears, and singing "La, la, la" at the top of their lungs.

"Sources said Gruden has decided to return to coaching in 2012 and that his current employer, ESPN, is already preparing for his departure."

Just found this statement in the first article I googled.

For me i'm not a fan of Gruden, I think IF he came here it would be short lived and we would be left in a bigger mess than what we have been through the past 5 years. Let's say he came and found success, the NFL would come calling with more money and less hours to work in a year and he would be a fool not to take it.

August 31st 2012

According to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com Gruden told HBO's Real Sports with Bryan Gumble that he will come back to coaching in the NFL if the right opportunity presents itself.

Last I checked the Vols are not in the NFL but please do yourself a favor and Google Jon Gruden coaching rumors and prove where he mentions UT.

Gman, he turned down the U of L job, and was interviewed for the U of Miami job. I think he is just looking for the right fit for him to return. College or pro, he will be coaching. UT or Cleveland? Who knows is the question on this board.

I respect your opinion but I am the polar opposite. I'm not saying that I'm right or you are wrong, we just disagree.

Yay4bray, you might have a great source, however, there isnt a done deal for Gruden. If there was, there would be no need for a "list" like you claim.

The boosters are to fractured to have any deal done and Hart is in some hot water from legal stuff, to upset boosters, to bad PR.

Last thing Hart wants to do is go on a coaching search. He may be forced to though.

First result on Google for "Jon Gruden coaching rumors" is the NFL and nothing on the first page about UT.

Everyone knew Saban was going to Bama before the ink ever hit the paper, not seeing the same sort of thing surrounding this rumor.

So you knew Saban was coming to bama 3 months before he took the job?

The work hours in the NFL is 365 days a year. Not so in college. Long hours yes, but not NFL kind.

I have no inside info and have never claimed to but I tend to agree with your post. I don't think any deal is done with Gruden or anyone else. Do I think there has been any reaching out and mutual interest? I think there has been something going on.
