Most disappointing Vols' performance ever?

Not sure who your gonna get to do that "coach 'em up" part!

:loco:

I'm pretty sure CDD and company are still the coaches. I'll leave it to them.

I hope he's our HC for many years. Meaning he is successful and we are back on top of the East. He's one of us. Sorry if I am pulling for him (and the team).

Games before the BCS era do not count because nobody cared really back then

:lolabove:

This has got to be either the stupidest or most sarcastic post ever on Volnation...possibly on any sports BB ever!

Please tell me which it is...please, please, please!

MOST disappointing for me would all be games against Florida that we lost. Well, except the 1990 Bama game.

Yea lecture those of us that can call it like we see it as if your a greater fan because you will not be honest about the shape our program is in. No one is less of a fan and your no better a fan than anyone who disagrees with you.

I like the man, I hope he retires with NC's, records and all the rest. But I am still gonna call it like it is. If it starts looking up I will be right here to say so. First step to getting better is admitting their is a problem and some of you are to stubborn to admit our program has problems.

Oh yeah. 2 td favorites the week after waxing Florida on homecoming.

And we can't muster more than 2 Greg Burke fgs against a very average Alabama team.

Your not calling anything like it is. You don't know what Hart will do next along with the rest of us. It is pure assumption on your part. So please! Get off your high horse and just say IMO, Dooley will be gone. I personally don't think he will be gone but I am starting to question if he gets us all the way to the top. You don't just get rid of a coach in an unstable program. If you do, there are only 5 coaches out there that you do that with.

But, play calling was good tonight, I am just questioning execution. Our defense only gave up 19 and 2 field goals were cause of the offense that put up 47? So in hind sight, is 13 points that bad on defense on a pass happy team? I don't think so, but it is MO.

Don't forget to add 1996 loss to Memphis. I watched it on tv, that's was a terrible game.

By far this one was the worst....not just because it was Memphis State but what it did to getting a better bowl that year. We finished 9-2, losing only to the Gators (29-35) and Memphis State. We beat Alabama that year who was #7 and swept all the SEC games except Gators. We beat Northwestern in the Citrus to finish 10-2.

That year the offense (Manning) had 437 points and ready...the Defense only allowed 186 for a 15.5 average.

If we had won the Memphis game we probably would've gone to the Orange Bowl...The Sugar Bowl was Fla and Fla St for the championship. One game and six points from the Championship game.

A lot of us older Vol fans have been thru much worser times as a fan than what we currently are going thru. It takes some time to add talent at all positions and even more time to add depth. The late 70's and early 80's makes this stretch seem like a walk in the park. Back then the SEC was not near as strong from top to bottom as it is now.

As bad as that game was, the worst thing was memphis' return guy's knee was down (replay clearly shows it) on the return that eventually won the game for 'em...

1. UK last year - they started a WR at QB who hadn't played the position since HS. 'Nuff said.

2. Wyoming '08 - that team simply quit.

3. Memphis '96 - all I can remember is the Spurrier story where he marked out TN as SEC champs, SEC East champs, and State champs. Ouch!

Honorable mentions: UCLA at home a few years ago; LSU in '01 champ game - they started backup WR and RB and we had a chance to play for national title -- now that loss was disappointing and beginning of CPF downfall IMO.

I think '75... CJM came staggering here in '76.

No, he won the NC at Pitt in '76.

His first season in Knoxville was 1977.

Anyway, bad loss.

That and Chattanooga are the only losses to schools that would now be considered FCS schools in the modern era, IIRC.

01 SECCG also marked the beginning of the dreaded Georgia Dome curse, which ended this year.

There's one feather in Dooley's hat!

That loss to LSU was the downfall of UT's swagger and confidence to this day. It's been downhill since.

For those of you that think the current state of the Volnation football program is as bad as it can get, remember (or learn about) these games:

1979 - Rutgers 13, Vols 7
CJM's 3rd season
Rutgers' 3rd year in D1

1986 - Army 25, Vols 21
CJM's 10th season
Army lost to Northwestern, Wake, Rutgers, BC and Holy Cross (D1aa) that season.

1988 - Duke 31, Vols 26
CJM's 12
Dukies hadn't been ranked since 1961.
Beginning of the Evil Genius' run against us.

2008 - Wyoming 13, Vols 7
After CPF's firing but inexcusable.
Cowboys finished season 4-8 including a home loss to what would wind up 6-6 Bowling Green.

Won't even give last year's Ky details...

Tonight was disappointing for sure, but a 21 point win beats the heck out of those embarrassments.

Watch the film, learn from it, coach 'em up, and let's beat the Dawgs' arses!

GBO

In '79 Majors made up for the Rutgers fiasco by beating ND.

1988 was a disaster BUT Majors rebounded with a very, very good 1989.

Dooley has not beaten ANYBODY worth mentioning but managed to lose to a beyond pathetic KY team last year.
For perspective he MUST win a significant game.
