Gretzky was in his prime with the trade, no?

He had just won the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in five years and finished second in the MVP vote -- after winning it the previous seven years in a row. (He won it again the next year in LA.) He was still in the middle of what was probably the greatest run of any player in professional team sports, and he got traded to what was basically an expansion team.

Edmonton needed the money, right? And wasn't he from Edmonton? And wasn't their theories that the NHL set this up to get more west coast teams? Why am I asking you this when I have the internet?

He's from somewhere near Toronto (like 90 percent of Canada's population). As I recall, the Oilers' owner needed the money and started shopping him around for a trade. Gretzky got pissed about it and ended up demanding a trade in a "Fsck me? No, fsck YOU" way. I know there were theories that the NHL manipulated the whole thing, but I don't ever remember reading anything credible about it.

The trade was so amazing that it even got a giant headline in the Knox News-Sentinel when it happened. I went down to get the paper and walked back up the driveway stunned. It couldn't have been more shocking if Jesus Christ had appeared on the field during the coin toss of the Super Bowl and asked where he could bet the under.

Verc, I want to ask you something. If Bobby Petrino is hired by UT (and I highly doubt this happens) what would you do? Because I don't think I could support UT football if they did that.

Given he's a Falcons fan, dunno how he can answer this one well.

I was born in the Fort. I grew up in Knoxville. My dad went there, and my sister went there, and I have two degrees from there, and I met my wife there. That's where I grew up and became a man. I'm not going to quit watching the games.

Holy crap, that would be an era of self-loathing though. I can't even imagine it. I would probably start out rooting for him to lose so that he'd get fired as quickly as possible. Once he started winning, I would just hate myself.

And then it would all just crash...

Anyways, on a more positive note, as it was mentioned earlier this evening, if the Vols can find a way to beat UGA down in Athens that might just make my year. That would wash away a lot of sins.

That hurt my head.

He is a damn human-shaped piece of excrement. Me being a Falcons fan is almost irrelevant to it, except insofar as I paid close attention to what he did here. He's a horrible human being, and I don't want my school to hire such a complete POS to be our most visible face.

I would rather lose games than win the wrong way. Hiring that MF would be winning the wrong way.

I would be very happy about it. But by itself, it wouldn't make up for last week. And it wouldn't change my mind about Dooley at all. If the Vols beat the leghumpers, I'll read more into that about Mark Richt than I would Dooley.

It's still a game of integrity when done right at the end of day. Two of the bright points of that statement go out the window when you hire someone like Petrino -- integrity and right.

He'd be perfect some where like Miami or deep in Texas.

I need to go dig up GreatWhiteNorth's MS Paint of "300" and make that my avatar for awhile. We're playing so badly I deserve a shiatty avatar.

I live down here amongst the cowardly-cocky dawg fans. It's difficult to remain decent when seeing that god-awful G logo.

The Head Football Coach at the University of Tennessee if the biggest face of the university.

You want this as your face of your university?

I have to admit that every year, the result of that game affects how I feel every single time I see that stolen Packers logo for the entire upcoming year. And as you know, I see that logo a bunch of times every single day.

That logo reminds me of fake smiles and trickeration.
