I am going to say it.....I miss the big guy

A couple of down years, lacked motivation, recruiting slipped, some disipline issues, left us open to fat jokes from other fanbases, golf clap, working like heck, too loyal to his guys, .....

....FLIP SIDE

king of the living room close at one point, 9 wins was a "down year", won a title, got us to ATL several times, respected and loved UTK and I think with the time off he could "right the ship again" and bring it back, it worked for Kansas, so lets pull a snyder and give the big guy another shot.

Hell he couldn't beat Florida either! This makes no sense.

Nah, it is all Jeff Fisher's fault. Phil needed to go. Kiffin was the right hire. The Titans and Seahawks plays a meaningless last game of the season in late 2009. That was the game were Chris Johnson passed 2000 yards rushing. If the Seahawks win, Jim Mora Jr gets another year. Dumb ole Fisher won a close game which cost the Titans about five spots in the draft. And lead to the Seahawks owners deciding to fire Mora. So that opened the door for Pete Carroll to escape to Seattle; Lane to USC and us with Dooley. Just one of those things.........I still wonder where we would be today if we had hired Jim Mora.

I had more confidence in Phil Fulmer than any UT coach in my life time.
Every coach has off years.
Given more time, I think he would have righted the ship.

Our biggest problem at the present is, lack of talent and depth.
I don`t care what anyone says.

Look at Kiffin and Chavis.
They both walked into programs with lots of talent.

This is by far the worst idea ever....No wonder some teams make fun of the intelligence of UT fans

What other coach have we had in modern times that has a record like Phil.
+ a National Championship to boot.

We would be so lucky if he would say "yes". But the way many of you ungratful bastards have treated the man he never would come back.

Al Wilson won the nat'l championship. Phil tried to give it away several times but Al said ' Hell to the No!!' :dance2:

See bolded portions. Those were the 1990s when we had more talent than anyone in the SEC and virtually everyone in the country. From 2002-2008 we were mediocre at best.

With all due respect, this is about as ignorant as can be and makes our fanbase look even sillier than it already is perceived to be.

AND, there is absolutlely no historical record of Fulmer ever righting the ship. He got the program loaded to the gills and left it in fractions of how he got it. Once it started going in the wrong direction in 2002, it never really got any better as to national relevance.

Sorry, but just a dumb idea and never going to happen

How soon we forget that we expected to win the SEC.

Well we don't have to worry about that expectation anymore, do we? Four years later, we're far worse off.

Seasons Spent Entirely Unranked in the Top-20 Under Fulmer: 0
Seasons Spent Entirely Unranked in the Top-20 Since Fulmer: All of them so far.

I think he was spotted at Dinky donuts getting his Phil on. He was an average coach with unbelievable talent. Not a bad O-line coach though. Head coach, ummm not so much

Same place as Gruden

:birgits_giggle:

Really??? Gruden has been offered several head coaching jobs yet has declined because of a BIG job at ESPN making more money per year than PF did at UT per year

You have to know your post was about as ignorant as any ever here

What makes the fan base look "ignorant" and "even sillier" is expecting us to be better off post-Fulmer than under Fulmer.

Anybody who misses the big guy must have been sleepwalking for the last 9 years of Fulmer's tenure. Move on: He was tired and burnt out and lost it.

I do miss having a Tennessee guy running things. I have no doubt the man would strap on a set of pads and helmet today and line up at OG if he thought he could help Tennessee win a ballgame. Part of me feels coach Fulmer was burned out. Part of me says other SEC teams were hiring very good coaches with new ideas and Fulmer was a bit stuck in his ways. He was always a good recruiter and I would imagine still would be today. He did understand that running the ball was not optional in the SEC. It would not have taken the man 3 years to figure out why our OLine that averages about 6'3 325lbs each and can bench press a house could not run block. Would it be a good idea to consider hiring Phil to come back? Probably not. I have no doubt in my mind this team would be more competitive if he were coaching them.

both were fired from their jobs after winning the big game. Neither have a coaching job since they were fired. Both are making good coin in non coaching jobs.

No, son. Its apples to apples

Not even close. Do you know what a rube is?

Look in the mirror :birgits_giggle:

Last 9 years huh? With a record of 77-38 over that span, I would think most fans would welcome that in a BIG way with where we are today.

Dooley just needs more time!! :eek:lol:

You're proving how much you dont know. Phil is actually employed and has his own company. Wait a second, did Phil do so color analyst work for CBS last year? Shows how much you know.

Neither are coaching and neither have coached in years. Apples to apples, son.

Apples to grapes, little boy. Gruden makes exponentially more than Fulmer per year, plus Gruden has actually been courted for several huge jobs. No one of any significance has let Phillip within sniffing distance of their program and Phillip has been seeking other coaching jobs. Gruden hasn't.

You should probably STFU or I will keep handing you your azz

Was I sleepwalking when we we spent some part of every season in the top-20, something we have failed to do a single time since his firing?

Was I sleepwalking when we won 8 or more games 8 out of 10 years, something we haven't done a single time since his firing?

Was I sleepwalking when we played in Atlanta and took national title contenders to the limit, something we haven't got close to since?

Was I sleepwalking when we never had bad back-to-back seasons in his sixteen years on the hill, when all we have had is bad back-to-back seasons since his firing?

What the hell does a holding company have to do with being a football coach?

CBS sports postgame analyst is not the same as your own segment on ESPN that recruits see everyday.

Gruden has been in the running for jobs such as the University of Miami, Washington Redskins, and the Baltimore Ravens.

Your hero has been rumored to be in the running for Connecticut and Kansas jobs.

Not even in the same league.

Greve Haller is a legend in ignorance on this board. Gruden has turned down offers from the big boys while Phillip has begged for them. The report about his Kansas interview is clear evidence. Also, when Phillip was on the TV simulcast of 790 zone on Aug 31, he was point blank asked why he thought no one had been courting him to be their coach. It was obvious he was surprised by the questioning, but did answer in a honest manner. The jaws also fell open on all the other guys in the studio when Fulmer stated that if he had been given a chance to coach the Vols in 2009, he believed they would have competed for a championship.

Lets just say the GH is as delusional about Phillip as Phillip is about himself
