Berdych won't actually make the semis. I was being controversial. I actually cant' stand Berdych. He's a head case and an arrogant prick. And a poor man's Robin Soderling.

Tsonga out. Roddick announces his retirement. Wow. I feel terrible for him. He now has to spend all day at home with that wife of his. Poor guy.

Venus is toast. Kerber is playing well, but it appears Venus is a victim of her own undoing. Yeah, yeah, I know she has the disease and all, but I've seen her play spectacular tennis since. Not often, but sometimes.

Times like this I wish I had a huge screen and six split screens. The 11am hour has Isner/Niemenen, DelPo/Harrison, Baker/Tipsy, the Williams sisters against their un-pronouncable foes, and the match I won't get to see that I really want to see - Dolgopolov/Bags. Na Li plays at 11, as well.

Good job by Steve Johnson getting past Ernests Gulbis. Gulbis may be mid 100's in ranking, but he is a way better player than his ranking indicates. Makes the win that much more special for Johnson.

We are one week away from perhaps the greatest day of the tennis calendar: Super Saturday. Fantastic day of men's semi-final tennis at the USO mixed in with second weekend of college football.

Federer advances today and is yet to be tested. Things pick up from here on out for Fed-Ex.

Murray tested in a huge way today by Lopez of all people. Murray has to come from behind in three tie-breakers to eek out a victory. Lopez can normally be counted on to quit after he loses a close first set, but kept fighting today. Very easily could've taken Murray out but didn't play the big points well.

Isner taken out by undersized German Kohlsdlkhsdihfsfer. I confess I went to bed after Isner won the third and looked to have taken the match over.

Steve Johnson taken out by Gasquet. Matches like this one always underscore the huge chasm between the men's professional and collegiate game. Or, perhaps, Johnson's strength always came from his 70s porn-star 'stache which he no longer sports.

Really good matches today (Monday): Berdych-Almagro; Murray-Raonic; Federer-Fish. Starting to get down to brass tacks up in here.

Thunderstorms and 30 % chance of rain this afternoon in New York.

Yes, 'stache is gone. He's moved on to the '80s now wearing some Don Johnson-esque stubble. Just not the same.

And his tennis garb looked like he was part of a chain gang. White with black horizontal stripes. Ouch. I'd say Gasquet was more offended over Johnson's lack of tennis fashion sense than anything and that inspired him to brutalize SJ in those last two sets.

If you just check the score after the Murray match is over (and it's not yet over), you'll never believe that Cilic had a 6-3, 5-1 lead, and was serving for the second set at 5-2. Complete domination early in that match by Cilic. The match totally flipped on its head and Cilic suddenly couldn't get a serve in to save his life.
