Home Brewers

I am in the process of getting all of my materials together. A buddy of mine told me not to just buy a starter kit. He said to just get what I want one piece at a time ex. glass casks and such.

The kits are reasonable online. Also get glass carboys. If you buy the starter glass kit from northern brewer shipping is flat 7.99.

They will only do that flat rate on starter kits. Great deal to have two glass carboys shipped.

The flat rate applies to most things except the carboys.

Switching an Alt to the Carboy today.

Darth - brought your recipe Pumpkin Ale to the fatherland where it also received mixed reviews just like here. Man, this one is the most polarizing one we have done. I tend to think it is one of the better ones, certainly my favorite Pumpkin from any I've had.

Good, glad you liked it.

Here is my victim. Found it on craigslist for $90. I am just putting in two faucets for now but it will be able to easily accommodate eight. I will post a pic when complete.

Well, the keezer is complete. Here are a few pics. I only have two taps now but each chrome circle is covering a hole for future taps so one day Ill have eight. It was not difficult to build and its really cool.

Thanks, me and a neighbor worked it pretty good last night. The cool thing about these is that you do no damage or drilling to the freezer. If I ever wanted to I could take the collar off mount the lid back and its a freezer again. Also, if it ever quits working all the hardware and temp control is in the collar so I could take it off and mount it to another freezer. If you decide to build one and have any questions let me know. The only thing I had a little trouble with was balancing the system to get a good pour.

Kinda falling for the American Wheat's. Coast in Charleston makes one called Shreddin' Wheat but they rarely brew it, very hard to find. Outstanding stuff, they do 50% wheat and 50% barely according to their info.

Huge rivalry between Kölsch and Alt beers in Nothern Germany. It is the cities of Köln (Kölsch) and Düsseldorf (Alt). I just bottled an Alt. Maybe we should exchange and see which one is better. :)

Sounds good to me. I'm thinking about adding blueberries to the secondary on my wheat this time.

I am brewing an NB American Wheat tomorrow.

I don't have a way to cool the kolsch down during fermentation but they are so good.

Mine came from NB too. I'm going to add 6 lbs of blueberries to the secondary on the AW to come up with something similar to Sweetwater Blue.

Where do you get the blueberry? I brewed today. Just got the Carboy in the swamp cooler.

The have fruit extracts online.

Bought 6 lbs of frozen blueberries, gonna thaw them next weekend, mash em up a little, put em in the carboy and rack over em.

Alright. I've got the books and I have put it off long enough. My first foray into homebrewing begins soon...

Just made the decision to start. Ordered the book Milo suggested and researching equipment. If any vets want to pass on info on equipment and what not feel free. Sorry if this is a repeat post.

Northern brewer website. I prefer the glass carboys. Search for coupon codes. I found a 10% off starter kits. Order any extras then to save on shipping. Starters ship flat 7.99 but after some items don't ship cheap (glass carboys)

If your near Nashville you can also check out All Seasons. I had to go there yesterday since the wyeast packs I received from NB were dead. Not really there fault, not gonna order liquid yeast online anymore in the summer.

Is that the place about 10 minutes north of Nashville? I went with my brother and we went halves on a kit and kept it at his place. He never told me when he was doing anything and I never got to brew. He just moved to Denver and I asked if he took the kit with him and he said yes :cray:

I wouldn't buy their kits though. They carry brewers best, Im not a big fan of them. Also, their kits are way overpriced. Most of their equipment isnt bad but kits are high. They sell 5 gallon glass carboys only $2 more than NB.

EDIT: When I said kits I was referring to ingredient kits not equipment kits.
