Got a great quote from an article on Nooga.com:

"Watson showed that speed in his final semester of high school as a track athlete at Clarke Central High School. He was the top sprinter in Georgia, winning the state championship in the 100-meter sprint. His time of 10.54 seconds would have been a top-20 performance in the 2012 SEC outdoor track championships."

Sounds impressive that this kid could compete in SEC track.

Cant teach speed. Glad we getting our own. Tired of chasing rivals speed. Now let them chase us!

Knew he was fast. Did not know he was THAT fast.

Hopefully he is more of a football player who runs track than the other way around. Leonard Scott was one of the fastest sprinters in the world, but that never served him very well on the field. He was adequate at best as a WR.

He and CP are both track stars. Glad to finally see UT getting more speed and athleticism all over the field. Very exciting!

Actually what even better with QW is how if you throw out his best and worst times for this last season his average is a 10.68. That's good wheels and remember...we're still talking about a HS kid.

As an FYI throwing out his best and worst CP averaged 10.62 this last season.

Can teach speed. :)

Reps correctly performed can increase speed.

Only accurate if context is reaching potential. When the phrase "can't teach speed" is used it's almost invariably pointing out that being VERY fast is a potential you have or do not have.

To look at it another way how many people out there are capable of running legit (officially timed/no wind aid) sub 10.6 100's? Answer; not damn many. And that's regardless of how much training/nutrition/etc is involved. The kind of speed QW & CP have cannot be "taught" to people unless the genetics are there to begin with.

I doubt if he is faster than his coach. When Graham played at UT he claimed that his sister was faster than himself. Does anyone know if this is true, or just a little joke??

The :) was a big clue to I was being semi-sarcastic to the post that I quoted.

You can dramatically improve performance (here) speed by evaluation of technique, improving strength, flexibility, etc. otherwise there would be no track coaches or S&C programs.

Nature vs nurture arguments are fun. :)
(see what I did there?)

Yep, but there's a reason for track scollies. The best coaching/training/nutrition in the world still isn't going to be able to polish a (genetic) turd. Which isn't to say you couldn't make the turds better than they were but they're still, well...:)
