'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

read through the dye thread, we also told dye we wanted him to be our one and only back...... so im pretty sure were playing a similar game with rbs.

I do remember Dye saying that our staff told him that, but I haven't seen any other back mention that about UT. We've seen 3 backs say that about Auburn. I could be wrong though :hi:

maybe, maybe not. just tell them all that weve got about three top guys and only need one so when the spot is gone its gone. may make one of them jump at the chance to join...

Telling three guys they are your "guy", when looking to fill one spot, is recruiting. Someone bites and you have your guy.

That's true, but they've told Green, Dye, and Wilkins they are all the #1 RB on their board and their top priority.

If it were me, I wouldn't take too kindly to being told I'm a team's #1 prospect, and then read a week later that they told another guy the same thing they told me.

exactly. thats what i was getting at. other guy was saying it was gonna bite auburn in the butt doing it that way but i dont see how. its just part of the recruiting game.

maybe dye really is our number one guy. wouldnt be mad at all if true. hes very close in my extremely untrained eyes to green.

Based on the recent conversations in the Jordan Wilkins' thread, I thought this would be interesting to post from one of the latest articles on Derrick Green. He's breaking down why he likes different schools:

So much for them telling Wilkins he was their guy and that they wanted him to commit.

That's a bold move. I wouldn't want to alienate every other back in the nation by telling them I wanted this guy.

I've broken them down into three different categories:

Likely:
Ohio State
Oregon
Tennessee
Virginia Tech

Unlikely:
Alabama
Auburn
Miami
Michigan
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Ole Miss
Pittsburgh

Clemson:
Clemson

I'd love for Tennessee to get into that "Clemson" category, but I'm losing hope.

But seriously, I think the staff is gonna be on this guy all season...and who knows? Lane fell into our lap when Dabo got his knickers in a twist. And that was without Coach Graham on staff.

I feel that your assessment is pretty spot on. It's a comical situation when you consider some of the guys Clemson is getting to commit right now. I still don't understand how Dabo gets these kids unless it's dirty. No offense to the Clemson readers, but I just don't see the draw.

I've been to the USCe game there, and even that atmosphere isn't Neyland with Florida, Bama, or UGA.

Learn math. It's not the same at all. It's nearly half of 25.

The numbers aren't the point man, I think what he means is Green is listening to about everybody and this group means nothing concrete. (If you were being sarcastic and I whiffed on it my bad :) )

Urban Meyer after visiting Clemson this past year for the first time:

“I remember when I was coaching down at Florida, we would always lose kids in recruiting battles to Clemson. I would tell my coaches that we shouldn't be losing kids to Clemson. Charlie Strong responded ‘coach have you ever actually been to Clemson?’ I hadn’t but I’ll tell you what, I’ve been here now and I get it. This is an exceptional, special place.”
