The Runner's thread

I'm looking for a run tracking app for Android. I Googled but came across different lists that ranked basically the same apps but all in different orders.

Does anyone have one they recommend?

I am pretty sure RunKeeper is available for the Android. It's a good app because you can use it for running or biking or several other out door things.

Tri, on your normal trail runs do you have creek crossings and large rocks? There is a trail right down the road from the house that I am thinking about running but it's more like a hiking trail. Just curious what you usually run on.

Its usually a hiking trail, like the Appalachian Trail. Also run some mountain bike trails. Rocks, roots, creeks make it fun. Two things to remember. focus on where you want to land not what you're trying to avoid. learn to shorten your stride. Better to take 3 quick steps than 2 big ones.

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know how it goes.

If you are the type of runner that likes to turn on the ipod and zone out for a hour or has to know the exact distance you'll probably only like trail as a change of pace.

Trail running requires mental focus but you can lose yourself in the surroundings in a way you can't on the road. Distance isn't exact. You may plan to run 6 but end up with 5.5 or 6.3.

I looking for a change of pace that's for sure. I want to challenge myself with this trail run and I feel like it would be a good challenge for me. As far as exact running goes I don't really care. The mental focus aspect intrigues me. I will be intrested to see how this goes. Probably won't be able to go until Sunday morning sometime.

I didn't run either. haha. I am taking this week after my half. I will start back on Sunday.

I loved taking the week after my half off, but also missed running at the same time.

3.2 miles last night in 23:16. It was a perfect night to run last night too. Not too hot and a breeze blowing. If it was like that every night I would not complain at all.

so I have a 4.4 mile run (very arbitrary number IMO) later on this year. I am going to train and try to kill it
