Da Reds thread

Yeah, the first half, the one the Cardinals played their best half of baseball. July, August, and September were the Cards' worst months.

Let's try and diagnose this historic 2006 Reds collapse or when they led for a good part of the season.

At the end of April
Cardinals 17-8
Reds 17-8

At the end of May
Cardinals 34-19
Reds 29-24

At the end of June
Cardinals 43-35
Reds 44-36

At the end of July
Cardinals 58-46
Reds 55-50

At the end of August
Cardinals 71-61
Reds 67-67

At the end of the season
Cardinals 83-78
Reds 80-82

first off, i never called it a historic collapse. second, there are plenty of times in the course of those first 3 months where we were leading the division.

What exactly did the Reds blow? The Cardinals had losing streaks of 8, 8, and 7 in June, July, and September respectively and the Reds still never built a large enough lead to "blow".

Edit: I see you're considering losing a game or two lead worthy of "blowing" a lead. I understand where you're coming from now.

ummmm...... that was because the reds started blowing it before the cards did.

Yeah, the Reds blew a one or two game lead. I get it now.

Interestingly however, the Reds didn't lead the Cardinals at the end of any month last season.

honestly, until i looked at the stats you provided tid, i was under the impression we had led them a lot more during the first half. i am honestly trying to erase last season from my memory banks.

we can expect to be dominated on many more occasions if jeff conine is batting cleanup with griffey 5th and encarnacion 6th. not to mention freel starting instead of hamilton.

sounds like typical jerry narron. i still think he needs to go.

are you saying he couldn't do better than milton. i think if he can keep his era in the low 4's he's already better than that chump.:)
he could do a hella lot better than milton, but they dont wana bring him up to early. also he wouldnt of given up any runs but a fielder made a bad play. but they still scored it as an error.

i hate to say this, but calling up bailey early would put us in a worse situation that continuing to use milton. at best bailey would be pitching for 5 innings per start to begin with, do you really want to turn the game over to the relievers that early?

well if he could get through 5 then we could bring milton in and see if he could get through 3.
