It could very well be if we win 9 this year his level of intelligence becomes irrelevant. Pete Carroll is a moron that is more of a cheerleader than a football coach, yet he has 2 national championships because he played to his strengths. He mainly focused on recruiting which is something that he was good at. Dooley has shown that he can evaluate talent finding players like Brian Randolph and Jordan Williams, and we are sitting in a good position with many top 100 recruits right now we just have to win. Plus things are setting up such that if we win this year the 2014 class will be one of the most talented classes we have ever brought in.

Pete Carroll is also a very good defensive mind. To say he was only a "cheerleader" is ridiculous.

No he is not, he is a decent defensive mind. Any quote that you can find from anybody at that time showed that he stayed very hands off. Let his assistants do pretty much everything, and focused on recruiting and motivating. This is one of the reasons that he struggles as an NFL coach, because that requires more intelligence as opposed to college where recruiting can overcome so many things

Right, my response was ignorant. Show me anything that paints him as a great defensive mind. Anytime he is ever talked about it has always been for his exuberence and ability to motivate. Nobody ever talks about this "great" defensive mind that you were talking about. Also, you'd think if he was such a great defensive mind he would have been much more hands on with USC's defense

Pete Carroll was a pretty good football coach in college, just not so much in the pros. Pete is also has a pretty good pedigree on the defensive side of the ball, especially considering he helped form the core of the Patriots defense for the early 2000's rise to dominance they had. I'm not sure where you pulled the whole, "Pete Carroll is a moron" statement from, but he's far from it, especially considering he's E-VP of the Seahawks.

Dead serious. Only an idiot makes conclusions before having enough facts to base one on. Dooley may be horrible. He may be a good coach. Neither his time at LT or his 1st two years at UT provide enough of a "normal" test to prove his value as a coach. You can make ignorant assumptions all you like. He has neither proven nor disproven that he can coach.

Unfortunately though... I never saw your Kiffin love before recently. That explains alot.

Moron was a bit strong, just getting at that he is not some scheming genius. It is well documented that he gets the most from his players by being a good motivator and is good at evaluating players, it is not because of schemes that he is successful even in his days as a defensive coordinator. He is a decent defensive mind, nothing more

If Dooley doesn't at least produce a competitive team, especially given the fact he has rebuilt the depth to that of a mid-level SEC team, then by the Vandy/KY games it will be interesting to see how the team finishes. If it finishes in the same fashion as it did last season, he's gone no question. If we win the last 2 games and are bowl eligible with a decent team, he will get one more year to get to at least 9 wins. If he can't get to 9 wins after having 4 years to rebuild this team, especially given the league he's in, he's not ever going to do it.

I definitely agree with this. I think most people do. Most of the argument is between people who say he can't coach and people who say the jury is still out.

A lot of that decision could also depend on how in demand Kirby Smart is next offseason. If Smart is really Hart's guy as people like LWSVol if we are just bowl eligible with a decent team and other teams are seriously making a run at Smart I don't see Hart just watching it happen

5 years coaching, one season over .500 kind of speaks for itself.

I don't "love" Kiffin. I don't care if he gets hit by a bus tomorrow. I did enjoy having a staff that was proven as either great recruiters or great coaches or both (David Reaves being the exception).

I think our win plateau is 8 wins, and that will take some bounces, breaks, and a healthy team to get to. I consider 8 wins to be a successful season, 7 wins to be the mark he really needs to hit, and 6 wins is possible if we have key injuries. If he doesn't hit 6 and have a shot at a bowl, he's gone. I can't see a way he is around with less that 6 wins.

In our third year you still see us below teams like Missouri, NC State, and Mississippi State? I think he needs to (at minimum) be clearly above that lot or else get a big upset win. Assuming a healthy team. We should be better equipped than usual to deal with injuries, but we'll evaluate those when they (heaven forbid) happen.
