Barnhart: Vols on right track says Dooley

If the last leg of a relay for the losing team was actually the fastest... you'd blame that runner for losing because he couldn't catch up fast enough to make up for the first 3 runners.

No, I'm blaming him for tripping over himself, setting new lows for the team, and getting passed by the slow, white guy from Kentucky.

Dooley and the Vols are going to surprise a lot of people this year.

We have weathered the storm. UT is on the rise.

Watch out.

Watch out.

We have the talent to do just this. I think Dooley was just as overwhelmed as the team by all the adversity last year, and it's made me nervous about him as a coach. But there's something that makes me think that a reset this year with more talent, more experience, and more depth might show us another, better side of him. I at least hope so.

Is it an owners' fault when the puppy they bought pees on the carpet? Some things come with experience and training.

That was the entire point of the argument. I'm not sure how you missed it.

Terrible analogy.

The team quit on Dooley. That is on Dooley. To blame the players is childish. Dooley makes millions to insure those guys don't quit. When they do quit, the man making millions needs to held accountable, since it is his job to make they don't embarrass his employer.

I support the coach and the team. I want to see something competitively from this team this year. I think it was too early to fire him after last year and I hope our Vols turn the corner this year. We should win eight games in my opinion by looking at the schedule. I think having Bama and Florida at home provides opportunities for Dooley to get a meaningful win. The streaks to these two need to end soon.

Did Dooley mention message-board commenters and question their fan card? I'll respectfully ask for a link. To the contrary, the very article linked in this post has CDD saying that he understands the fans' expectations, and attributes those expectations to the fans' passion for the program.

Link? Or are you just blowing out of the wrong hole again?

Said it about two months ago abut recruiting:

"I think what has happened now is the social media has allowed more fodder for negativity if you will. It's giving people more ammunition. When people get on (Tennessee) websites and they type stuff all you are doing is giving the other schools information to go attack our players. I have made the comment before. If you truly love Tennessee like most people say, you would not be negative publicly. Everyone is going to have concerns with the program. Those concerns should be addressed with the coaches, the AD, or amongst your friends. But the more public you get about Tennessee, the more it hurts the program.

"If you truly love Tennessee you would not be negative publicly."

when did you go to UT?

I did a year of grad work there in 2010 before transferring to Old Dominion...not that it particularly matters. I was a Vol fan long before that (1988, when we lost our first 6 games) All my parents and grandparents went there. I was raised to root for the big Orange.

so fiji, 99gator, allvol, fade route, they've all crawled out from under their rocks for this one. Just as I predicted. All the 'fans' who want UT to lose.

A veritable festival of ignorance.

I never would have thought a HC in the S E C would ever say something so embarassingly naïve and amatuerish.............til now.

"Festival OR ignorance"?? If you're going to rip on negavols, try to sound halfway intelligent when doing so.

I think it matters plenty. I also don't think most of the posters that bash and rebash the coach and university attended UT and/or currently give back to the University.

Most of the Bama fans that act ridiculous aren't alumni either. Most just claim the team is theirs do to whatever reason, then embarrass the university and alumni by their classless antics.

Most fans of teams in the SEC (outside of maybe Vandy) did not attend that school so I don't agree at all with this

It has more to do about who you are, where you are from, and who your Dad and family roots for than what school happened to give you the most financial aid so that you could get an education

UT football and SEC football for that matter goes much deeper than just where you went to school

I don't personally know anyone that attended UT and rehashes and bashes as much as those that are UT fans, but didn't attend the school. Of course we have questions and concerns, but concerns are different than what many on here spew.

There are a lot of people on here that just read and don't feel the need to post and make themselves look like an idiot though - and the people on VN are not necessarily a representative sample of the fanbase as a whole

I developed a similar theory a few months ago when there was a thread about Kiffin and some were saying that they would rather still have him than Dooley, and defending the job he did here.

Personally, I'm not saying you can't be a fan if you aren't an alum, and I might be completely wrong and there is no correlation, but I often feel a disconnect between my priorities for the program and those of other fans.

What if we start winning and Dooley shows that he can coach at a major program? Will you change your tune or stay on this crusade?

Of course I will change my tune. Be great if he proves me wrong, as of this point in his career there is nothing that says he will though.

Selective "facts"... aren't actually facts. Once you strip "facts" out of their context... they're worthless. That is precisely what you do. You cannot separate losing from the roster. You try... and that's why your conclusion is INCONSISTENT. You dismiss facts that do not agree with your conclusion.

If the last leg of a relay for the losing team was actually the fastest... you'd blame that runner for losing because he couldn't catch up fast enough to make up for the first 3 runners.

Lol. More excuses.

Nah, I would blame the coach. Try again.
