Coach Martin vs. Coach Dooley (merged)

I have not read all this but at this point I think Cuonzo is obviously the better coach. Makes no excuses while also being dealt a crap hand, overachieved with players, picked 11th finished 2nd, stole Jarnell, and the players seem to love him. Hopefully Dooley can turn it around.

It is interesting to revisit some of this conversation knowing what we know now....the locker room problems were real. Dooley is the coach for at least a year. We will soon know if Dools is a dog and pony show or if he can hire decent coaches and get out of their way.

Lex my point in starting this thread was simple. We've got 2 coaches that were picked to finish near the bottom of the conf. One coach finished 2nd in the conf and the other finished near the bottom.

I've got no problems with the intent of the thread. I think it is worthy of discussion. Coach Martin has out performed expectations. Coach Dooley hasn't. It is a cut and dry argument from that point of view.

Well, I can say with a lot of confidence that the sportwriters in this conference made a "lazy" prediction with the BBall Vols. That was a ridiculous pick as the team was much better than 11th place, even before the season started. At least based on talent they were better than their predicted finish.

So, a blowhard like VolBeef shouldn't be getting any breaks for using predicted finishes as a barometer of anything, except that he knows less than I originally thought

I bet volsbeef is really mike that calls into all the radio stations.

Don't get me wrong, Cuonzo has done a wonderful job of turning the season around. It's just that it takes a real knothead to start a BS thread such as this one.

With the exception of one game, Derek Dooley has won the ones he was supposed to win and lost the ones he was supposed to lose. So in terms of meeting expectations, Derek Dooley has actually come closer to meeting what I expected versus say Barack Obama. Of course, I had high hopes for Barack and he hasn't reached those lofty goals.

I got a question. If you get busy in an airplance, they say you are a member of the mile high club. What similar club is there for trains?

That's like comparing airplanes to trains.

Me neither.

You could disagree that the BBall team was predicted too low at 11. I had em at 8 or 9. Which is still 6 spots off from where they finished.

That's like comparing Dooley to Obama.

Everybody knows that Obama inherited a worse situation, coaches in a tougher conference, and got more fans like Volbeef.

:eek:k:You cant compare the two sports. It's apples and oranges. I do agree CDD is in much deeper to show coach of the year type work this season because of coach Martin's ability to coach up.:clapping:

This thread is hilarious because when Dooley was hired, he was praised for nothing more than because he spoke with a southern accent during his press conference. When Cuonzo was hired, many of you bashed him because...well, who knows

I'm not nor have I compared the 2 sports. I'm talking about coaches meeting expectations or not.

I don't know...both Obama and Dooley walked into a mess.

Yes, I agree Beef. With exception of the one game, I think that Dooley has met the expection. And without a doubt, Cuonzo exceeded the expectation. He exceeded my personal expectation by a lot!!!

So your expectation of the football team over the past 2 years is 11-14?

No, my expectation for the vol football team over the last two years was 13-13. If he didn't lose the one game and we win a small bowl, he is right there.

My expectation for this year is 9 wins.

Beef, Abe Lincoln was defeated in his first three attempts for political office. And he turned out to be one of our most acclaimed presidents.

If Dooley doesn't get it done this year, he is gone. You are not accomplishing anything by beefing about it right now. It will work itself out...one way or the other.
