Time for a raise/extension for Pearl, assistants..

I don't know why everybody gets so jacked up over coach compensation. I could really care less until we lose a good coach because we weren't willing to pay him what somebody else was willing to pay him.

Has that happened yet? Nope. Until then, I'll let the coaches, their agents, and Mike Hamilton worry about it all. You better believe MH knows he can't afford to do something stupid like let CBP leave over money unless what some other team is willing to pay is just completely ridiculous.

I think Bruce Pearl and his staff have proven they are deserving of raises. Coach Pearl currently makes a little over $1 million/year. In 2 years, been to the NCAA Tournament twice and now a Sweet 16 run with 4 freshmen playing significant roles. I think it's time for Mike Hamilton to pony up and make sure this guy is locked down before a program comes in offering about $2 million a year (eh hem, Michigan). If Phil Fulmer is deserving of an extension (which basically is a raise long-term) after the product he put on the field in the Outback Bowl and 9 wins, then Bruce Pearl most definitely deserves a raise/extension after this season.

If you feel so strongly about this then Pay him out of your back pocket. Its not time yet. Let's keep him around for a while and get UT Money's worth. Check the Salaries of the other head Coach's. What I like about Pearl is the 100,000 he gave back to the school in the form of scholarships to honor Dane Bradshaw. That is class. Money is not the object with Bruce Pearl. It is Coaching and building the program through his leadership is what drives him. He will leave this program when he has accomplished his goals and stay as long as he wants too. Money will not be the thing that moves him from UT.

So CPF, recordwise, is one of the best coaches around
If a winning percentage padded by getting three games a year against Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Kentucky is your idea of greatness, TCHFCATUTK is superb. However, if you believe that the number of championships a coach wins and his record against elite competition is the true measure of a coach, not so much.

Yet you say, "You are what your record says you are".

Which applies perfectly when you are comparing apples to apples. Without placing things in their proper context, Chris Petersen is currently the best coach in college football if one only looks at percentages. When deciding who gets the nod between Bowden and Spurrier, the head to head record speaks for itself. Just as it does when the question involves TCHFCATUTK and Darth Visor.

I see what you're saying. Use stats only when they help my arguement not hurt it

No problem. You can delete all of them if you want. I'll simply fill the holes with commentary on his inept performance and unwarranted compensation.

Sorry if you thought I was asking your permission to delete posts. That was not my intent.

But Pearl beating Copin State, Tennessee Tech, and Western Kentucky (and you can find more cupcakes) doesnt count as padding?

Almost every college coach is gonna have cupcake games. So you really cant hold it against one coach and not another.

It wasn't just you hat and I really don't think it's necessary to delete them. I just prefer that we don't go down that road.

Thanks for understanding.

What's Pearl's record against Florida? Texas? Memphis? Then, compare that to the record Haystacks has against top 10 competition since 2000. That's the point I'm making. Beating bad teams means nothing to me. Show me what you do against elite competition.

Fair enough, though you might have to factor in Pearl getting two cracks at florida every year while of course Phil doesnt. Though with his record against florida, that might be a good thing.

You've probably done this before hat but if you were CPF what would you do differently to have success against the Gators in a nutshell?
Well, that's really two different questions. First, I always thought we should have taken a page from FSU's book and absolutely assaulted the QB when we played Spurrier's teams. If the hits were a little late, so what? Against Meyer, I've felt we didn't throw the ball down the field enough in either game. I will grant that the '05 team just couldn't execute in the passing game. However, to beat quality teams, you have to make big plays.

How do you suggest beating them this year?

I say attack downfield on that young D, while making sure to establish the run game (Foster and Coker make a good 1-2 punch)

Then literally molest Tebow. Every play, especially those options, light him up. Let Timmy Teabag know what it means to play a full 60 minutes against a SEC defense
