Time for a raise/extension for Pearl, assistants..

If Hamilton lets Pearl get away, it'll be his butt on the line. Talk about an instant loss in revenue from basketball operations, merchandising, etc.

I really hope CBP is concentrating more on the game than his contract right now. He's a smart enough man to know that doing a good job will equal a more profitable future.

I think he actually did.

He did this year, I agree. But in the past, Fulmer has gotten more raises then he deserved. Pearl this time deserves one, and doesn't appear he is going to get one.

Hamilton did hire Pearl instead of trying to hire the best available ulumni.

Why give Pearl a raise if he is doing what we brought him here to do?

We didn't pay him 1 million to be the next Buzz Peterson.

Whose? Yours? Mine? That doesn't matter...

I bet not his own or Mike Hamilton's.

By that logic, why are we continuing to give raises and extensions to a football coach who has won absolutely nothing since 1998?

Hey we won the EAST in 2004....

Obviously joking but that's the only thing Pearl has truly won, yet people think he is the next Coach K...I hope he is but it's a little premature for me...

Good question. But not on topic, why are you trying to cloud this discussion like everyone else? You could turn "that logic" against a lot of people, and it would be totally off topic and pointless. Which is what bringing Fulmer into this is.

I dunno ... Kevin Stallings is currently earning more than Bruce. If you compare Stallings' first two seasons with Bruce's first two seasons, there is no comparison. Stallings led the Commodores to a 19-11 record and an NIT berth in his first season, and then missed the postseason entirely in his second season, when they went 15-15.

By contrast, Bruce got us into the Dance in his first year, losing in the second round, and has improved upon that feat in his second year, with the Vols now in the Sweet Sixteen. Stallings has only gotten Vandy into the Sweet Sixteen twice (if you include this season) in his 8th year at Vandy. And they've only been to the Dance twice in that time.

It's not off topic. If we have continually given raises and contract extensions to a bloated buffoon who has accomplished nothing since the '90s ended, it only makes sense to extend the same courtesy to someone who has completely rejuvinated a program that was flatlining when he arrived.

No one put a gun to Pearl's head when he signed the contract. He helped negotiate it and signed on for it. He knew that he was given the contract for this kind of production.

Fulmer is a completely different entity. He is being dealt with in a different way. I think we are being a little too quick and scared to just all of a sudden fall to our knees and offer Pearl any amount of money when no one has even contacted him yet.

I hope your not suggesting that Mike Hamilton and Bruce Pearl's expecation was, that within 2 years UT would be in the Sweet 16.

He's not as bloated anymore. There's probably fatter posters on here than Phil.

I seriously hope it was Bruce's expectation. I really doubt he's shocked by the success he's had at UT.

I would assume he thought he would get to the tourney by this time. And at least win a round. I know he has done more than that, but raises should not be awarded to a person for just doing more than what is thought.

I think Tennessee fans should stop acting like they don't deserve this kind of coach or success. We have the confidence in football, and while history is a factor in that, so is fan support and facilities. Basketball has both of those.

No, the UTAD's track record is to give raises to people for wallowing in mediocrity. The concept of a coach actually exceeding expectations is foreign to them. I can't really ablem them for that, given that it's been so long since it happened prior to Bruce's arrival.
