Tenn-Ohio State

if i am not mistaken, when chism was being recruited a lot of people were talking about how he had oden's number in AAU games, but that may have only been a rumor.

hopefully it is not just a vols bias saying that i think we will win this game. i agree with hatvol's comments that oden has a bullseye on his chest for the refs and will not have the comfort zone that he has had for most of the year. bruce pearl knows this and will make sure our guys are doing their best to draw fouls. oden could easily get into foul trouble and become a non-factor in this game. we just saw the best two guards we have played all year, and will play all year, so i think we can compete with the OSU guards as well. the dome is an x-factor, how will we shoot? i think lofton will come out on fire after a subpar shooting effort against virginia and his effort will feed our other shooters confidence.

prediction:

Vols 75
Buckeyes 66

Personal Foul! #20 of Ohio State. 15 yard penalty. Automatic...FIRST DOWN!!!

If they gave the technical, Xavier would be between us and the Elite 8.

I have a real hard time seeing Tennessee stay close in this one - however, Tennessee's game against Virginia was right around middle of the pack for us this season, so if we shoot better against OSU, we'll keep it interesting.

Pearl said it yesterday, and I said last week - Ohio State is better now than when we played them - but are we? I hope so!

We are unequivocally better than we were in January.

See generally our games sans Lofton. The development of Chism, R. Smith, and W. Childress will play a factor in this game. I hope it is a hugely positive one for UT.

The key, as stated, is Oden. If we can go right at him and have it pay off in the form of foul trouble and made free throws, we will be in this game. If we can't, we will have to be absolutely scorching from 3-point range.

No predictions from me. I bet UT and the points at the Venetian the day before yesterday and it did not come back to haunt me. I choose not to press my luck!

GO VOLS, beat tOSU! Show 'em who the real UT is!!

We're better than January as a whole, but when we played Ohio State, we were 13-3, coming off of a month where we beat Memphis, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Mississippi State.

...and smack in the middle of a three-game losing streak.

Just seemed to me like they dropped the hammer as soon as Oden checked out.

I get the feeling this won't be the case this time around. Getting after Oden, getting him in foul trouble, and hitting the FT's will certainly be key.

Otherwise, we will have to to burn up the nets "NBA Jam" style from 3-pt range.

Am I the only one who watches Lofton hit his first shot, then says to himself "He's heating up..." Then the big one down the stretch: "He's on FIRE!"

Last time, Tennessee used that baseline motion to draw Oden out from under the basket... to some effectiveness. Don't look for the OSU coaches to allow that to happen again.

i agree....i look for them to test him hearly and see if they can get some early fouls on him. plus that will give them an early indication of how the refs are going to call the game......as much as i hate to say it, if they call it loose, OSU has a real advantage...so i look for us to challenge, just to see what happens, early. obviously, it will not be our game plan to feed chism or crews underneath....but if chism can have another game like he did yesterday, w/out the fouls early in the 2nd half.....who knows. get oden in f/t early and it forces a better match up for us.....

going to be real interesting.

Our game Sunday excepted, the refs have largely taken a 'let em play' attitude throughout the tourney.[I've no idea why they all of a sudden decided to go ticky tac on us...]

I recall that Chism and Crews also did a great job fronting Oden and being physical with him. Denying easy ball entry from the guards to Oden. That much will have to continue.

Guards to guards, I actually like us better.

In the post, on defense, we''ll see...

In the post, on offense... If we get the kind of crisp passing we had against Florida and Vandy at home, we've got a good chance to score some in there...

well, there's got to be a mentality that we are not going to "stop" oden, unless he's off the floor. So i take a page away from the TX/USC game.....Durant...not going to stop him and they didn't, but they stopped everyone else and won handily.....not that it's the same, but the philosophy could be translated. i think we go in to this knowing that Oden is going to be good for a double double....

like you said, it'll be up to our guards to negate theirs and take our chances inside.

I think our fast break points will be huge too. We need to get Lofton and Smith open for 3s in transition, and while we're at it maybe we can tire out Oden by running him to death. If he gets tired he'll start reaching and maybe pick up some cheap fouls.

Another positive thing - Tennessee probably played against Virginia about 65% of what UT can do. We didn't play well and won.

If we play 90-100% of our ability against tOSU, we'll be in this one until 0.1 seconds.

And I have a feeling we might be better served with Oden in there so tOSU plays tons of zone.

I remember that but I think it was Crews not Chism.

I take it you didn't see the first UT-OSU game earlier in the season? You should watch it.
