I don't think we will be. But, we will be mentioned by analysts some, and if we throttle nc state on national tv to start the year...

I generally agree with this statement. Had we finished the year playing in and winning a bowl game, I could see some folks considering us for the preseason Top 25. But as things stand, we have more to prove on the field before they rank us, even if we do finish with Patterson and the others we are wanting

The part I disagree with in the above statement is the "if." I think we will throttle NC State on national TV to start the year. :)

GBO!!

Not much would help this fanbase more than just absolutely taking it to NCState week 1. Obviously not our most important game, but I want to dominate.

Disagree.

Beat the snot out of NC State and maybe but the past two seasons do not add any reason for voters to put UT in the top 25 until they earn it.

If we land Patterson, I think we'll open at 24 or 25. Voters will look at our schedule and see at least 8 wins, plus we are returning 19 starters, a Heisman candidate in Bray, two of the top JUCO players in McMountain and CP (Sentimore will get ignored by the voters).

I'm just as big as a Bray fan as the next UT fan, but Heisman candidate? There is a legitimate argument with those that say he hasn't really beat anyone good yet.

I still think it will be like last year. I don't think there is any way we break the top 25 until we beat Florida. After a 3-0 start, that should turn some heads.

He'll be discussed as a Heisman candidate heading into the season. Not sure it's warranted, but it will happen. He's currently being projected as a top-5 pick in the NFL draft.

We could land Eddie Goldman, Kiirven, Patterson and whoever else you can think of and UT is still not going to open the season as a top 25 team.

In all fairness, Pre-Season All-American's or Heisman Candidates are simply a beauty pageant. They normally look for someone w/impressive stats last year and slap the tag on them.

Top 5 pick is absurd...he has talent but he hasn't showed to be a first round talent much less a top 5 pick.

He makes some terrible choices sometimes.

Yep. IF we stay healthy this year, and Bray has DR, JH, and CP to sling the ball to, he'll put up gaudy numbers.

CP hasn't played a down yet in Div 1 football and you are already including him in the starting rotation as someone that Bray will be slinging the ball to? Replace Patterson with Mychal Rivera.

Apparently this dude is that good and considering after DR/JH we are pretty depleted in the WR department, I could see him getting starter reps for sure, he can't be any worse than ZR.

Rivera will have a huge year though.

I think we would be likely to run a lot of 3 WR sets w/ 1 TE so id count him as a likely starter if we land him

CP is the real deal.

lol, of course he is. I direct you to the Kenny O'Neal thread back when he signed with us. Everyone is the "real deal" until they get to practice and realize they are surrounded with 84 other people who are the "real deal." Obviously, I'm not saying that he isn't, but to assume that he will come in and be a starter is ridiculous.

You don't think he could start over Z. Rogers?

could? yes. And by year's end, he is likely to be, but Z. Rogers will be our 3rd WR come September. Nobody wants to admit it, but it is what it is. Without knowing anything in particular about Patterson, if nothing else I'm sure he will need plenty of work learning the playbook and learning how to properly block SEC defensive backs.

Yep. Unfortunately true. I don't care what the reasons are, you finish last in the SEC East and cap it off with a loss to UK, you ain't starting the season ranked.
