'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

weird, seeing as this thread has well over 7,000 comments i figured santos would be considered our top commit left to secure but i posted a poll asking who the top uncommitted prospect or waivering prospect out there is and out of the first 6 votes not one has been for santos.

Thing is, Santos is many's favorite recruit. He has this ruthless attitude on the field thats great.

The reality though McNeil, Obrien, Peters are the backbone of this defensive class. I believe getting Kirven is more important then keeping Santos.

i personally voted for patterson. i know defense wins championships but a couple things make me believe we need him the most.
a. we have no depth at wr.
b. i feel like because we are still relatively young and instituting a new D our O will have to win several shootouts next year
c. would make our three headed monster the best starting wr's in the nation.
d. i think offensive numbers are super important for recruiting, kids see high powered explosive offense's getting major love on espn and want to be a part of it.

There r top uncommitted guys that r higher on the list than Santos. Needs we really need to cover. Rbs and DL are more important. Patterson too.

Santos is just that guy we all want cause he is the type of player we all want on our team. Not an urgent need per se, but he would be a good asset for sure. He has also been so gung-ho UT that this new twist is such a punch to the gut so late in the game. I wasn't worried about all his visits, but when utx offered I sat up on my chair with concern.

Wow... what a bunch of ladies in here. I hope he's a Vol, but if not, you move on to the next kid that wants to.

Santos will be a beast LB at UT or TU. Stop this stupid argument about him playing DE.

They run a 4-3 and their backers have to cover four and five wide sets chasing spread offenses. WVU is joining their conference as well. I think he would be a star at defensive end and could get to the league. This isn't the first time this has been speculated. Many here doubted he could keep his weight down at Tennessee. It isn't putting him down saying his best and most logical position at Texas is DE.

my feelings exactly, thats why i chose patterson with my vote. i just figured that the voting would be more emotionally skewed with everything thats being said on here.

Why are people freaking out? If this was your kid and he had been committed to Texas for months but Tennessee came swooping in at the last minute would you make him "honor" his commitment or hope he played for his favorite school growing up??

Texas is one of the top 5 football schools in the country, it's close to home for him and they have their own tv network. This is a no brainer, hope the kid becomes a Texas legend but not one kid is worth freaking out over.

Dang...His dad and mom are both pushing hard for Texas

I just hope that Dalton makes the choice as to where he wants to play football...not his parents. If he wants to go to Texas, then fine, but don't go because that's where your parents, your friends, and your whole town expect you to go. Parents should be ashamed for trying to play that much of a role in this big of a decision for their child (Landon Collins' mom says hi). I am orange through and through, but if for some unforeseen reason my child decides to go to a different school than UT, then it is her choice (yeah, I guess even if it's Bama) not mine.

I could be wrong but I think Santos knows where he is going. I really don't think his visit this weekend is going to change what he has already decided. That being said, if his choice is the cows, he needs to go ahead and let our staff know now so that we can move on. It would be the respectful thing to do considering how the Vols have been in his corner since pretty much the start. Good luck to the kid no matter where he ends up.

Skeet and OCI, are you guys getting the impression from your contacts that Dalton really wants to be a Vol, but that his family and everyone else is pushing him so hard to Texas that he might just cave in and go there? From everything that I am reading that sure is what it sounds like. I mean if everyone wants him to go there and he wants to go there too, then it would already be a done deal, right? He said a long time ago that if Texas offered, then he would commit on the spot, but maybe that comment wasn't including them offering this late in the game...meaning he knows he is only a back-up plan. And now he loves TN so much, that for him it's too late for Texas, but he continues to entertain them because of so much pressure from everyone around him.

I understand ur pt and agree with it to a pt. I understand 1 or 2 posts of anger but it went on for a little longer than it should of. And what he was saying went a little to far. Just saying that learning to control it is important. If not called out then he would have never realized how bad it was. He came to that realization in later posts.

Anyway, I believe u and I get along.
Sometimes there a few things u say that I
don't agree with the way u go about it. You
control yourself, keep it minimal, and don't
cross lines. I try to understand where u r
coming from and move on.

His mom is totally against moving the family. She's not calling the shots but as we all know if momma ain't happy nobody's happy. Like has been stated 1000 times in this thread, there's a really good chance he goes to Texas.

Then let your son go to college where HE wants to go (prob TN) and don't move the family. Everyone wins! Sometimes you can't always get what you want.

Your logic is being lost in your concern for your team getting a commitment.

I would definitely give my opinion what I think is the best option for my 18 yo. It will be on what helps him grow maturely as a man and if I know I will be able to see him more because he would be closer, it will definitely come in play. Not only for me but also for when he may need me. -- im not saying Texas is the best option for him to grow. You just stated earlier that you would let your daughter make her own decision without you offering your input--

Sometimes distance and/or family works in our favor. When it does you will see tons of people giving positive reasons why the kid needs to "stay home" or "listen to momma cause she knows best".

Dalton my stay home and distance plus parents could be the reason. Quit crying about it and possibly see it through a young Texas mans eyes. Let's hope he comes to the real UT!

Mr. SEC reported that he is making an OV to UGA this weekend. Is this old news that is not updated? If so, could it mean he really wants to play in the SEC? This doesn't make sense, if true.

I agree with Boceefus, we would love to have him, but it's not the end of the world if he goes to Texas. Leaves a spot open for someone else.

I agree. I would give helpful advice to my child too; however, I would not try to sway her decision and push her to TN. That's all I am saying. It would be her decision ultimately...no matter the distance.

He has stated several times, for a quite a while, that he wants to play in the SEC according to posters here.
