Grayshirt just means he pretty much stays home. Not sure why we couldn't do that either. Unless Fortenberry means we wouldn't want to.
It sounds like Volquest is in a state of mass confusion.
You can't do gray shirts this year. Tennessee has the room for 25. I don't think they ask anyone to be a walk-on this late in the game.
I don't see them turning down Patterson or Kirven.
Now, Tennessee won't get everyone and the numbers will work themselves out. There's no way to know right now who wants on and where everyone committed will end up. That's just how it works and is part of the fun leading up to signing day. It's really just wait and see moving forward.
Fortenberry

Can't do grayshirts.... this is the first I've heard of this.
Did the SEC just outlaw every awesome way to over-sign or what?
I know thats exactly what he was saying. I didn't post the whole thing. He would be ineligible to play for us this fall
Gotcha. Maybe I'm picking up what you're throwing down now.... I just don't know if that basketball rule applies to football.
Oh well... someone will figure it out and post it eventually and be REAL proud of themselves.
So anyway, I hear Quinshad Davis can jump over a school bus.
(you guys happy now?)
You can still accomplish the same thing as a grey shirt, you would just have to tell them before NSD and not have them sign a LOI. Then they can still "gray shirt" the next year and sign a scholarship the year after that.
Apparently you can only sign more than 25 if you can backcount. We cant backcount so we can't gray shirt. If you cant backcount, you can not sign more than 25
For three-star receiver Quinshad Davis (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney) its down to three schools -- Wake Forest, North Carolina and Tennessee, according to his coach Dan Jones.
Quinshad will visit Tennessee this weekend, Jones said. He knows the Vols need receivers and that they have a young quarterback that can really throw the ball.
Davis, 6-foot-2 and 180-pounds, made an official visit to North Carolina this past weekend. It was a very good and productive visit for Davis and his mother.
