It wasn't optimism. Take Cam Newton off of the 2010 Auburn team and see how far they would have gotten. Never would have gotten past LSU and Bama in the West

Peyton Manning and the Indy situation shows most vividly how hard a team can collapse if only their QB is injured. They went from dominating their division every year to having the worst record in the league. We had not only our QB gone for most of the season, but lost our No.1 WR. So, don't give me that chit.

If we weren't so shallow at every other position I would agree we could have made a run at the SECCG with TB and JH healthy. I just think our O line, RB and D were to thin. imo

If Bowles had pretended to be open to other schools, he might have gotten a 5th star. There has been zero hype or drama around his recruitment.

I don't see it. Bowles is a good player. But he is a 4* IMO. I think Rivals got this one right.

ahh i had this same conversation with escape goat. i believe the drama plays heavily in the star rating when your at a certain level.

With Hunter and Rogers we were practically unguardable...Hunter going down changed everything...

Now...imagine having both of them AND another WR on the same level as them...that's what will happen if we land Patterson...

It will be an incredible thing to see if it comes to fruition...I hope Patterson can see the benefit of playing with these guys and not see it as a detriment to his future

it would be like the big 3 taking their talents to southbeach.

New article on Patterson talks about how Patterson will make decision public the night before NSD. He is still open to all schools and is ready for the process to be over. Patterson also spoke on speculation that he wants to attend college close to his mother because of their close relationship.
"I'm going to make my decision the night before Signing Day," said Patterson. "ESPN is going to film it and it will play on Signing Day."
"I'm considering all of the schools that I have visited," said Patterson. "I have a top three, but I'm not going to put that out there just yet."
"I'm glad it will be over soon," he said. "These calls and texts are just, I don't know, getting old."

I too will be glad when it is over. :victory:

True, but I don't think you had a player like a Cam Newton or a Peyton Manning on your team last year. I have always stated that I'm a big JH11 fan and think that Bray has a ton of potential but they are not big difference makers, not yet. Maybe JH11 could have been, but not to the point where he would have a Cam Newton effect on the SEC.

I can't speak about Peyton and Indy because I don't really keep up with the NFL. I will say that the NC winning Auburn team was loaded with great talent. They had Dirty Fairley who could take over the line of scrimmage. Auburn also had a very experienced O-line full of Seniors. Not to mention they had Onterio M. and a very good Freshman RB in Dyer. Cam Newton deserves a ton of credit but Auburn was a solid football team that year.

Agree on all.

And I think even Peyton would have had a tough time winning 7-8 games with this year's Colts. Aging at key places, significant injuries at others, combined with mediocre drafting the last 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colts blow it all up with Peyton ending up in Baltimore, NY, or Dallas.

If he's from south carolina, you would think UT was in good shape. It's closer then UGA and Auburn.

I was there at the Vandy game when Patterson visited. One thing I did happen to notice other than the fact that he was sporting a nice Tennessee jacket was both he and his mom really seemed to enjoy the game. They were both really into it throughout the entire game, and his mom for sure seemed to be having a great time. I dont think she'd mind coming up to Knoxville at all if Patterson picks Tennessee.

Thanks for the information. I think that line of thinking is definitely something to watch for going into this last week of recruiting.

One thing is for sure. UT was Patterson's leader for months and months. Most of the recruiting process. Even though there was a 2 month stretch where things didn't look good because of his EE status, he still hasn't eliminated UT at all.

He seems to have a pretty close relationship with his mother who is from South Carolina. UT would be one of the closest schools to S.C. out of his final list. He and his mother did enjoy their earlier vist. UT is definitely in the picture.

potatoes potahtoes... by distance from his mother, he means that he is staying in the southeast.. distance from his SC to knox or athens or auburn isnt all that significant.

I agree. My post was in response to a post stating we had a clear advantage due to distance from home which isn't accurate at all.

I am leaning more and more toward the idea that between Q Davis and Patterson, Tennessee is going take the first one to commit and at the moment, I believe Q Patterson will be the first to commit. Assuming the other one wants to commit as well, his fate will be dependent on how we end up with Santos (I think we will hang on to him), Kirven (I think we get him also), and Robison. Briscoe could also factor into it if he wants to commit and we miss on Kirven.

Good idea, lets combine Q Davis and Patterson into one person so they only take up one scholarship :)

A combination of both. Perfect scenario. Best of both worlds!
